I think your percentage of excess weighloss is closer to 60-61% since your Nut goal is in the low range instead of the mid range of normal bmi. You've come a long way, and just because you arent as close to goal now as you'd expect doesnt mean you wont get there in your own time.

Ive been playing with numbers on the weight loss planner myself trying to figure out where I might end up. Right now Im a little dicouraged that the number on my scale is behind my goal for how far I am post op (9 months). When I see numbers for people that have had surgery around the same date as I did I tend get envious that they are into 160-180 pound range and Im no where near that. Now Im to reminding myself that I was over 300 pounds at this time last year and that Ive come a long long way. Some of the people I am envious of started out at a weight thats not much higher than I am now- so you're right Kelly-you cant compare apples to cantelope!

Welcome, I didn't have any issues so I don't have much advice. Well, that's not true I don't eat bread or pasta.

If we feel the need to compare, let's talk percent of excess weight lost. It makes more sense than just pounds.

Okay, take you starting weight and subtract the weight the NUT/Dietician's told you that you should weigh (mine said 125 pounds for five feet five inches).  Now take the amount you have lost and divide it by that number.

For me at 11 1/2 months Post Op I have lost 57% of my EW.  Not where I should be at this point... but it is what it is.

You have done amazing!  think of how far you've come, not how far you have to go.  I thought originally that I would lose 180 pounds, I won't.  But I am still way better off than I was!

I'd ask for an appointment to discuss the issue. Bring all your paperwork/edical records. Arthritis and high cholesterol are co-morbidities. Use them.
It also depends on what your PCP put on the form. Ask for a copy.

Good Luck!

31 lbs. lost before surgery!  My goal is 150lbs.  My surgeon's goal is 110lbs.  I just can't imagine that weight right now.  Maybe someday . . .

I would make sure that the paperwork submitted to EMMC mentioned the arthritis and high cholesterol.  That's all I had for comorbidities and I was approved through the Augusta program with no problems.  You could also check with the Maine Medical program in Portland.  I think that Medicare only pays if you go through a Center of Excellence, which currently is only Bangor or Portland (I don't think Lewiston or Augusta are approved officially yet).  Just talk to them and make sure they have all the facts.  Good luck!

Topic: Got rejected from EMMC for being too health
I am so upset right now I don't know what to do. I finally broke down and asked my PCP for a referral to Bangor and just called EMMC to find out why I haven't heard anything. Well they told me I was rejected because I was too health. Yet I am 225lbs over weight. I have medicare/mainecare and they said I need to have at least 1 co-morbidity to go along with my extremely high BMI. I don't have diabetes, sleep apnia, high blood pressure. I do have arthritis in my back and knees really bad in my back, I do have high cholesterol. I am really beside myself, I don't know what to do. They said that being extremely obese is not enough reason to get approval for surgery. Has anyone gone through this or something similar? Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to have this surgery?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
