I know my surgeon has some upcoming but I don't specifically know anyone who's had it done as of yet.  I think it's a great surgery and although I love my RNY, I wish I'd had VSG as an option.

I know someone who has had it done here in Maine, but she isn't on the OH board. Sorry.  If you have some specific questions, I can print them out and ask her for you. I know that whenever  I see her she says she is doing well and losing pretty consistently.  I know she is looking really good!  Good luck!

Has anyone here had or know someone who has had the vertical sleeve surgery here in Maine?  I'm researching surgical weight loss options and this particular option appears that it may be the best one for me.  Just wondering is there is anyone who has gone through this surgery and what your experience has been!  Thanks!

I'd say do whatever works for you.  As long as you are consistent and measure the same things the same way each time, you will see the differences!  Sounds like you are doing great!  Keep it up!!! Congrats!

Thank you everyone :-) Of course now I think I have stalled, but hopefully it won't last long!

I know this is probably a silly question, but based on the health tracker here, I assume that you calculate just one arm and one leg when you figure things out. Either way it looks good -- it would be 47.75 lost since surgery . . . or 58.75 if I am supposed to add both arms and both legs. I just wonder what the really correct way is, LOL.

I am trying to give myself a boost as I have hit a stall, even though I am now exercising an hour a day as per doctor's directions (cardiologist, pulmonary, and GP -- they are ganging up on me!).

For me it is my arms -- YUCK! But I feel better so the shriveled apple doll look will be tolerated for awhile. I have no idea what I will consider for plastics, but it is still a long way off for me. That's great that you're only 75 from your goal. I am still hoping for another 130! A hundred would be good, the extra 30 would be insurance weight.

Congrats on how well you're doing and feeling!

Topic: RE: Scared to death!!!
I went back and forth for ages before deciding to do it, and I was scared leading up to it, and even for a little while after because it does take some time to understand your new normal. I can tell you that for me it has been worthwhile. I think we all know how to lose weight, but if we do we don't keep it off without the surgery (or only about 5% do without the surgery). For me, I stopped even being able to lose because I think I just felt hopeless, but once I got the hope back I lost 75 pounds before my surgery and have lost 90+ since . . . so I am down 172 pounds in a year, and can now walk around and breathe again -- at the same time :)

I would be more worried about whether or not you understand the process if you weren't scared. It is scary to make a life-altering change like this. But I needed to do it to get my life back.

I actually thought I wasn't really a candidate because I have been anemic a lot of my adult life, I have pulmonary hypertension, and all sorts or risk factors . . . I think I used that to talk myself out of it for awhile. But now most of my co-morbidities are improved. I have no idea what the pulmonary hypertension is doing other than I have had my meds cut in half and still have an oxygen saturation of 99, so it seems vastly improved by that count. I was taking 95 units of long-acting insulin and 100 units of short acting and now I only take 18 units of long-acting. I cut my asthma medication in half. My blood pressure is 120/70 even at the doctor's office when I am nervous about an appointment. So while I am not OFF a lot of meds yet (I am 5 months out), I have greatly reduced them and more importantly I feel better and am doing more. I have my life back and hope it will just continue to get better.

I don't experience this, but I have heard it happening with too much sugar. I flush sometimes when I just feel off, so maybe it is just that. It takes time to get used to eating again once you've be reorganized inside!
