Sorry to hear about all your complications it just makes something that isnt easy to go through all that much harder. I actually attended the WLS class and support group tonight which was good. Dr Dayhim was at the support group for a while so got some good info. Good luck with to you with whatever you decide.

I am complicated! I have a cancer hx so I have to have more imaging done and then doc will recommend either vsg or rny. If there is a chance of cancer re-occuring, rny will be out because of the malabsorbtion issues (will not be able to fully absorb oral chemo). So....I am waiting to get all results and prognosis from oncologist and then Dr. Dayhim and I will decide. I am hoping for surgery this summer if possible.
I have friends who have had each of the surgeries. All seem happy. My friend with the DS is starting to have difficulty maintaining her weight (she is super thin) and I think is starting to wonder fi she did the right thing. There seem to be very strong advocates for each of the surgeries so might be best to get recommendation from a WLS program since they see so many patients. I have been extremely pleased with the EMMC program in Bangor.

If you can believe what you read it seem to have the best long term for keeping the weight off but who knows. I'm still undecided in what I'm going to have.
Have you already had surgery if so which one?
Thanks for the reply,

Hi. I don't believe anyone in New England is doing the DS. I was told that EMMC would not ever offer it as the team is worried about significant malabsorbtion long term. I looked into it too as I was researching all types of WLS and found it way too scary for me! Good Luck to you!

Hi,
I've been lurking and reading for a while now I'm just starting the WLS journey. I've been researching all the different options for surgery and I have to say that I really like what I read about the DS has anyone here in Maine had that surgery done and if so did you have it done in Maine? I was not very successful in finding a doctor that does the procedure here.
Thanks,
Trish

There is a support group meeting tomrrow at 430 pm in Mason Hall, EMMC. I am going as is my wife. It would be good to see you there. Many questions get answered as one of the surgeons attends and answers from ther group. In addition, there is support available from those who are where you are...post surgery. It would be good to see you there. In addition, i recommend Staying on Track with Dr. David Prescott. More to come. Hope to see you and our prayers are with you. My wife Barb also had the sleeve done recently. Seek peace. Scott

Congrats on the weight loss! You are doing great! I am going to try to get my hubby on OH but as of now he still isn't feeling quite up to anything on the computer. LOL. Thanks for letting us know about the support group. Unfourtunately we live 2.5 hours away from Bangor so it is hard to get down there often. I hope that we can get to a support group soon as I have not been able to get to one in a couple of months due to my work and the distance. Have a great night and keep up the great work! :)

My husband is hanging in there. Today was the first really "good" day he has had since surgery. After surgery he was sore for about 4 days. He has been having a hard time to get all of his proteins in but today he has done much better with this. Two days after getting home he had passed out due to dehydration so he has been really working on getting all of his fluids. We think he may have caught a bug that has been going around our town and as a result has had a 3 day run of diarrhea so he has lost a lot of fluid that way too. Today he is feeling much better and is beginning to joke around and act more like himself. Today was his 1 week post op and he has lost 13 pounds thus far. I am so proud of him for sticking in there and still being a great support to me.
