My date is 1/23/06 with Dr. R. Cobean at Maine Medical. Am nervous, anxious and excited all at the same time! Hope my "blended food month" won't be too horrible but am sure I can survive it. I was wondering if any of you who have had the surgery were happy you had it done? Are you feeling better - more energy, more self esteem? Anything special after surgery I should be aware of? Would appreciate any input from someone who has walked where I am about to! Thanks a bunch.

Hi Laurie: Thanks so much for the encouragement. The first month of blended foods is what is worrying me, I think. Plus the wondering if I'll come through the operation OK. I also wonder how you can cope with cravings afterwards. Like if you really, really craved a brownie or something. How would you get around that? Eat something that is sugar free and chocolaty like s/f pudding? I am so happy you had a successful time and are on the better path of life - leaving the weight behind. It has ruined all of my life - such wish they had this operation years ago. Thanks again and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas. Dot

Hey dorothy, your very welcome for the encouragement...The first month isnt fun but you wont really feel like eating alot anyway so it should go by quickly..I felt at the end I was eating all the time cause i wasnt ever really hungry. I had the same thoughts about coming out of the surgery...everything will be fine. I wouldnt think you were normal if you didnt have those thoughts. Your going to come out of this fine and going to be a new women. I am here for you if you ever need anything. The cravings arent bad for me, but Ill tell you what I do....if I have a raving for a brownie...I have a small peice. It is going to kill you if you try bypass your cravings..a very small peice wont hurt you, at least it doesnt me. dont indulge a small peice make it last and enjoy it. you may find your belly wont tolerate it and then you wont have the craving again. I am feeling and If I dont say so myself looking good. Dr. Clough said dont deprive yourself cause the craving it is not going to go away... a small peice is not what your used to having but it will cure the craving. I didnt substiute..I went with the craving..sometimes my belly made the decition for me. Your body will decide for you what you can and cannot have....you will find that out so fast...lol. the weight ruined my life too and now I couldnt be happier...it is all worth it...but somedays it doesnt feel like it...just keep thinking of a positve future and it will feel good. let me know if i can help with anything else...laurie
