Support person staying with patient
I am having my surgery at Maine Medical Center December 7th. The bariatric center insists that each person having surgery have a support person,(spouse, sibling, or friend) who goes to all meetings with the doctor, nutritionist, and support meetings .(You have to attend at least one support meeting where you meet other people who are going to have surgery and those that have had surgery and exchange thoughts, concerns, and learn from others) Your support person must be with you the day of surgery and the wants that person stay with you the night following surgery
THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME KNOW..MAYBE THEY DIDNT MENTION IT TO ME BECAUSE I HAVE A HUSBAND??? I DONT KNOW BUT THIS IS THE FIRST I HAVE HEARD OF ONE AND I AM ALMOST 8 WEEKS OUT..GOOD THING TO HAVE...MY HUSBAND WAS VERY HELPFUL AND I ALSO HAD MY BEST FRIEND HAVE THE SURGERY ALMOST A MONTH BEFORE ME SO I HAD HER TO GO BY....I HOPE EVERYTHING GOES WELL FOR YOU.I HAVE YET TO BE AT A POST OP SUPPORT MEETING BUT I AM INTERESTED IN GOING. I LIKE TO LISTEN AND COMPARE. LET ME KNOW IF U NEED ANYTHING. LAURIE
My support person is my husband. I also have some very good friends who are there 100% for me as well as a therapist (required by program)who has been a big help in getting me to think more about myself and work through problems related to my father's dementia and nursing home placement. A couple, who are very close friends, have offered to stay in our house and care for our animals (1 dog, 2 cats) so that my husband will be free to stay with me. Another friend has offered to visit my father so that he will not be upset at having no visitors. I guess my main concern now is whether I will be able to remember to drink. I have a tendency to get involved in something and forget about eating and drinking.
That is very great. they wouldnt let my husband stay with me i was very upset...i didnt think it was fair but they said he couldnt...i would have liked it he would have helped me alot more than the nurses did, but anyway good for you. yes you must remember to eat and drink it is very important. laurie
