O.T considering a move to central Maine
Hi folks,
I am visiting from the Mass. boards. My husband and I were visiting a friend in Skowhegan and saw a house further north in Solon that we really like. Can anyone tell me a little about the area? It appears to be a very small town...and we think we like the character of it. ...but what is life really like in a small town in Maine? I live in Haverhill Ma.....very city compared to Maine! Any words of wisdom?
Hi Kim, I live about 1 hour south of Solon, population about 6 or 7,000 people. I lived in Revere Mass for about 10 years, and I'm happy to be home again. The biggest things I noticed is people aren't as rude. My neighbors wave to me on a daily basis, strangers will say hello or hold doors open. If you break down on the side of the road, many people will stop to offer help or use of a cell phone. Don't get me wrong I loved Revere, but I wouldn't raise my daughter there. The sign you see when you cross the state line says it all. "Maine the way life should be" It is hard getting used to everything being closed when you're used to having so many options of things to do in the city. Food is another thing to get used to. I miss the fre****alian breads and pastry, escrole soup when I'm sick...etc. It's something to walk into the local coffee shop and they're pouring you a cup just the way you like it before you get to the counter. I love Maine and don't think I'd move away again. I hope you find happiness in Solon. Good luck.
Ann
