Can anyone recommend a good PCP in the Kittery raea?
Hello...I was wondering if any of you could recommend a good PCP. I live in Kittery and the PCP I have now is not helping me with my weight issues at all. When I did not have insurance, she said I could benifit from physical therapy for my back and wanted to do different tests to see what's going on with the rest of me. Then, I could not afford to do that. However, now I have Mainecare and all she has done is order some bloodwork and perscribe XENICAL. My cholesterol is, as she says, "very high" (215). Last year, it was 237, so I must be doing SOMETHING right all on my own. She said I need to be on a diet and exercise program and that she will see me in 6 months to recheck my cholesterol. THAT'S IT. This is after finding out that XENICAL is not covered by Mainecare. (It costs $218.99 per month) I called the office and spoke with a nurse and told her that I am willing to try ANYTHING to lose the weight and get my body healthy...she said my PCP will be seeing me again in 6 months. So, needless to say, I am very frustrated. I would like to find another doctor who will work with me on ALL my health issues. My therapist knows I want to go through with GBS and FULLY supports me on that. She has been helping me learn more about it and about life after. She advised me to work on the problems caused by my obesity before mentioning surgery to my doctor. That way my PCP won't just think I want the "easy way out." My therapist and I both know that the surgery is ANYTHING BUT that, but as so many of us find out, other people don't always agree.
Anyhow...if you could let me know of any good doctors in the area I would GREATLY appreciate it.
Thanks a bunch.
Julie L.
PS. I also have the FULL support of my boyfriend and my family. All I need is a supportive/helpful PCP.
Julie,
I live in Freeport.....and had my surgery at Southern Maine Medical Center.....I had to get a referal from my pcp..which thankfully he was willing to do so....i had only ever seen him 2 other times.....not for weight info...but i told him all about my dieting...my always being heavy...ect...and he accepted it....i told him i was in desperation mode and afraid i would not be around for my kids.....he gave me the referall...however if you do not have a pcp that works out of the hospital that you are having surgery at you also have to find a Hosptializ.....which is a pcp....that works out of the hosptial! In case any other issues arrise during your stay at the hosptial...I was refered to a Really nice guy in Biddeford...named Dr. Cotone......He did a basic phsical...and talked to me about my prior attempts...He told me that risks ....told me dont to rush into surgery...but gave me the clearence......so all in all i was please...I know he takes MaineCare...I hope this helps a bit!
