Ha Everyone I've ask this question before but just got around the corner answers. I am going to the weight loss program at EMMC in Bangor. Has anyone been through this program? If so can you tell me in DETAILS what question the psychologist ask? wHAT IS ON THE QUESTION FORM? I would like to know exactly what they will be asking and looking for. I know it's a 50 question form I will be ask to fill out and was told it will take about three to four hours at that one appointment. I am praying someone will be able to help me and not just say be honest and all will go well. I plan to be honest but I also like to be ready for whatever it is that's going to be ask of me. I welcome any and all replys. Janet

Hi Janet! Sounds like you are getting stressed over this test. There really isn't much to be able to advise you. This is the way it worked for me. I was given some preliminary forms to fill out for my history of weight loss, diets, feelings about my successes and regaining the weight. Basically, fodder for discussions about the interview to follow. It basically was information so the counselor could see what I had tried, what had failed, and how I felt about myself. Sort of to see if I was prepared for the surgery, knew what was going to happen and was I ready for it. She asked me to describe what was actually going to happen during the surgery to make sure I knew. They want to know that you actually are aware of what you are getting yourself into and whether you are prepared to deal with it. The second part of the interview was a very long 300-500 (I actually can't remember how long...but it was long) questionaire about your feelings about things, likes and dislikes, etc. It actually is a questionaire used by many agencies for many things. It is a psychological test for OCD, depression, phobias, etc also. It is not for specifically WLS purposes. The only thing you will notice is that they ask some questions many different ways so that you have to answer honestly or have a real good memory. There are no right and wrong answers. I remember a couple questions were weird like...When I get really angry I could easily kill someone with a hammer.....I like to watch what people are doing in windows...Some real sicko stuff. Some were just everyday questions like...I like to keep my paperwork filed in specific order...crooked pictures bother me....(OCD kinds of questions) Some were general...I like bright colors better than dark colors...I like dogs better than cats....Questions for shyness like...I don't like to walk into rooms by myself...If I go to parties, I enjoy talking to lots of people...or I don't feel comfortable talking to people I don't know.....There were questions for depression like....I feel like a failure....Nothing seems to ever go right.... There were questions to see if you were suicidal like....sometimes I feel like I should just end it....Sometimes I like to cut myself...... There really isn't anything to get worked up about. The worst part of the test is that it is long. I did stress on the test for a bit because somewhere on the filling in the little circles on the test I skipped one and was one off. I hurried to fix it but then started to worry that I hadn't moved them up the right way and that in correcting the error I might actually have changed my answers to read....."I like to torture people" or "Looking at blood turns me on" lol So relax, just take the test...it will turn out fine. Hope this helps and doesn't stress you more. Take care! Judy 243/236/216/138 goal

Hey Janet I am going through the EMMC Program too. I have my psych eval next month. I don't think it's anything to worry about, just answer the questions honestly and you'll do just fine.

Hi Janet, I went through the psych eval about a month ago and it was 550 questions that pertain to your lifestyle and feelings. They only want to know about you and how you see life, so it's best to be honest, which shouldn't change their opinion on the surgery. Of course if you're on the brink of suicide or murder they may want you to get professional help first! Don't worry too much about it. There are some weird questions and some that might seem really silly, but it's just so the doctors can get a better understanding of who you are and if you are up to meeting the challenges of WLS. Many of the questions are the same but worded in a variety of ways, so, like I said, just be honest, don't worry and Good Luck!!!! Linda G.
