I am back from surgery!!
Hi all,
Thanks so much for your support and prayers. I had my surgery on May 18th. I am so happy!!!! I am able to get my required protein intake daily but I still need to work a little on the water. I exercise every day - though I need to start increasing my time on the treadmill as my recovery improves. In one week, I lost 11.50 pounds!!!! It has been kind of hectic for me though. On the Thursday before my surgery (May 12th), my brother called me just about in tears saying that his employer notified him that his insurance was going to change effective June 1 to a company that no longer covered gastric bypass surgery. I told him - well then we will have to get things rolling. So I called the gastric bypass doctor's office on Thursday and found out they had a cancellation for the 24th of this month and that they would put my brother in there so that he could have his surgery before his insurance ran out. The only problem was that his existing insurance company had not yet received the paperwork to prior authorize his surgery. So the secretary for the doctor said she would fax over to the insurance company the 44 page report on my brother's history. On Friday the 13th, we went over to the insurance company and met with a representative to check on the status of his prior authorization. They said they hadn't received the fax. I got on the phone to the doctors office and they faxed it again. A little while later, when we spoke to the insurance company they said they still didn't receive it so the secretary at the doctor's office spoke to the insurance company and stayed on the phone until the insurance company acknowledged receipt of the report. Then the person handling the claim called me and said that a doctor would be reviewing the data and we would know by the end of the day. He was approved in one day!! How is that for working under pressure? The next thing I had to do for my brother was to get his legal documents in order (living will, power of attorney, and last will and testament). I had that on my computer so on Sunday I got those documents prepared for him and gave him a list of things he should get done prior to surgery. On Tuesday, one day before my surgery, I finalized with him everything that needed to be done. I had my surgery on the 18th. I was released on the 20th. Then on the 24th, I was off to the hospital again - this time to take my brother to his surgery. His surgery went well and he is still recovering in the hospital.
CONGRATULATIONS Lisa on your successful surgery. And to have lost 11.5 pounds the 1st week, Great!! Also good going on getting your brothers stuff all done and calling to get him into WLs quicker before his insurance ran out. You are an AWESOME sister, wish you were mine.
Please keep us informed on your progress as well as you brothers.
