I was so excited this morning to go for my surgery. I got a call and I thought oh great they can take me in early!!! Wrong!!!!!!! I had a cat scan done on Monday to look at a swollen lymph node that I have on my neck. My gastric bypass doctor was going to remove it when she did the gastric bypass surgery. However, I told her about my concern about the other two two centemeter lymph nodes that was diagnosed two years ago during a routine mamogram. They did an ultrasound and said it was nonspecific so the surgeon said not to do a biopsy because more than likely it was just due to my severe allergies and eczema. About six months or so later I went back to her complaining that the lymph nodes were causing pain around my shoulder on occasion. Once again she brushed it off, saying that some women who are big chested have pain in that area and not to worry. Well when I spoke to my gastric bypass doctor about the lymph node, she said she would remove the one in my neck during gastric bypass surgery and she would due a cat scan to get a better look at the two under my arm. When she called me this morning, I thought it was to go in early for surgery. Instead she said the ultrasound revealed multiple swollen lymph nodes throughout my body. I asked her if that was just because of my ezcema and allergies and she said possibly but they were more concerned about me having lymphoma (a form of cancer in the lymph nodes that I guess is treatable). So instead of her doing gastric bypass surgery on me today she is going to do a biopsy of one of the lymph nodes. It will take a week to get the results. I knew something would come up to stop this surgery. I am greatful that my gastric bypass doctor checked into this. My question is why the other doctor did not do this cat scan two years ago to rule out this problem. If I have been dealing with this all this time untreated I will be ticked off. I would of used some swear words here but I am trying to keep it clean. If it is lymphoma they will have to treat that before I can have gastric bypass surgery. If it is just from my severe allergies, then they will set me up with another day to have the gastric bypass surgery. Well, pray that this is all a false alarm. I am getting ready to go to the hospital for the biopsy. Well, I am back home from my biopsy. My doctor told me at the hospital that I have several swollen lymph nodes on the left side of my body. My right side is normal. Anyway, she had me come in to do a biopsy of the lymph nodes. They are checking for lymphoma a cancer of the lymph nodes. I have severe allergies and eczema and my allergist said that that can cause lymph nodes to swell. However, my gastric bypass doctor is concerned because it is only on one side of my body. I have learned one thing. That is that my gastric bypass doctor is awesome! I was sedated for the operation but she spoke to me throughout the procedure. I know that if I am ever able to have gastric bypass surgery I have complete confidence in her. I have to wait a week for the results of the biopsies. If they are benign, then she will schedule me as soon as possible for the gastric bypass surgery. I will keep you posted. Lisa
