I got my first appointment!! I'm very excited to get the process started. My appointment is with Dr. Wolf at the Bariatric Center in Portland. Does anyone know her?

Hi Karen, My name is Lisa and I live in Old Orchard Beach. I have Dr. Wolff. I am scheduled for surgery on May 4th. Dr. Wolff is a very nice woman. I think you will be very pleased with her. My brother is having this done also and he also has her. If there is anything I can do to help just let me know. I live close by. You have children around the same age as my son so I guess we must be close in age. My husband is my support person. You will need to have a support person in order to have the surgery. On the insurance side of things. I hate to say this but Cigna is not covering Gastric Bypass Surgery. I had them under my husbands insurance policy and I had to get off of it. I am disabled so I went back to having Medicare as primary and I purchased a Blue Cross companion Policy to pay for whatever Medicare does not pay. I am glad to hear that you will be able to get onto Anthems policy. Maybe you can have all your appointments covered by Cigna and when you are ready for surgery hopefully you will be on your new insurance. Anthem is covering this procedure I believe through the rest of this year if not longer so that is good for you. Best of luck to you. There are bound to be ups and downs throughout this whole process. If you read my Profile you will learn about mine. However, in the long run when we can look back at things afterwords I am sure we will be glad we went through all the hassles. Take Care and keep me posted on your progress. As I said earlier, if there is anything I can do for you just let me know.

Hi Lisa, Thanks for responding to my post. It's nice to hear from someone who is going to see Dr. Wolfe. I will be seeing her on May 9th. I'm so excited you have no idea!!! (of course you do though) It's great to get support from this site. I get a lot of mixed reactions from family, friends and co-workers. Unfortunatley it's mostly negative. I know how awful Cigna is. I wish I had dropped them last year. The company my husband works for bought the ryder that includes gastric bypass. However, they make you go on a physician supervised diet for a year. I'm not going that route. I'll pick up Anthem in the fall. I hope if all goes well I can have my surgery in October. Of course I'm open to the fact that everything may go wrong with the insurance part of it. I know as it stands now Anthem pays for gastric bypass if you have five consecutive years of being obese. I should be all set there but you never know. Thanks for your support!! I appreciate it so much. I hope you surgery goes well. You must be excited? Are you nervous at all. Are you having it done at MMC or SMMC? Take care, Keep in touch and let me know how it all goes.
