HI everyone...I am really thankful that this surgery has been such a great tool to weight loss.
I have 80 more to go but I'm slowing down a lot. I seem to loose about 10 pounds a month now. Much slower than before. I hope I will actually loose the rest and I will be able to be the size I'm supposed to be. I can't imagine it...it has never happened to me.
I pulled out my pictures from last Christmas and Oh MY GOSH......5' 1' and 335 pounds is not a picture of health! I could barely move.
I had a defining moment right before the surgery ....I fell down in my driveway on Main Street in my town and I could not get myself up. Even with my husband and daughter helping I was unable. They had to bring out a rug for me to kneel on and chair for me to try to haul myself up with. I was so horrified and cried all day. But....it made me realize that even though I was afraid to have the surgery, I was headed for an early death anyway. I made up my mind that day to go ahead with it.
That was the best decision ever!
I am able to run around now and even pick stuff off the floor and walk through the mall without getting out of breath. I am able to wear clothes that I kept from 20 years ago. ( Wierd but true....I saved a few demin skirts from LL Bean!)
I am off my C-Pap machine and have lost 5 inches around my neck. Sleeping is so great without a breathing device.
No more diabetes, or 12 pills a day for various conditions.
Even though I had serious complications..and could have died, I don't regret having the surgery.
I'll keep you posted on the rest of the weight loss!
This Monday night Jan 10 from 6- 7:30, there
is an open meeting for anyone to attend at The Maine Medical Scarborough Campus on Rt 1.
Dr. Wolff, Dr Cobean and the Bariatric Team will be there to answer questions and give a presentation about the surgery.
Some of us who have had the surgery will also tell of our experiences and
talk about having complications.
