I have just started my classes to have gastric bypass, and was told it is going to take 6 months. I was just wondering, how long did most of you have to wait??

I was on a waiting list for well over a year and that was just the waiting list. Then when my time came i started the process but my surgeon (Dr. cobean) was well worth the wait and i would do it all over again. melissa

I had Dr. D'Augustine. I was on the waiting list 22 months before I had surgery! Someone at our support group meeting last night told us that Dr. Cobean has a 2 year waiting list also. Keep your chin up! Your time will be here before you know it! Kim 261/209/130

Hi there, I was at the MMC Bariatric Support group meeting last evening. When I read you Message I was very concerned about the wait! I am waiting for my appointment from Dr. Cobeans office and the thought of a 2+ year wait seemed awful. Anyway, I spoke to their staff at the meeting and they said it is now less than a years wait before the first appointment. They now have a second Dr. (Dr. Wolff). She joined the practice not to long ago so now the wait will not be so long. Just thought I'd pass that information along for others like me who are wondering just how long we will have to wait if we decide to go through MMC.

hiya Do not discouraged Dr. cobean is in my opinion AWESOME!! His waiting list is long but his after care program and the support i recieve all the time from his staff is amazing they really do care about us and want to see us succeed in this. I can call them anytime about anything and they are more then happy to talk to me about things so hang in there. It as my buddy Sam says below well worth the wait. E-mail me anytime if you want to dish about anything. I actually made it 4 months early for my first meeting because they called me for earlier dates so if they call always make the earlier dates and that will get you through quicker. melissa "missi" 3/8/04 -120 lbs

Hi there, Thanks for the encouragement. Saw you there at the support meeting. I talked to the MMC Bariatric Center and they told me less than a year now. I now realize after that evenings meeting that it will be worth the wait to have it done at a place that has more experience and a great support staff. The support groups are awesome - it gives me hope that someday things will get better. Anyway, I'm sure I will be seeing you again at another meeting. Take Care! Lisa

Kristen, I too have Dr. Cobean. I was on the waiting list for 18 months before I began seeing him, I had my first appt. in Nov. and my surgery in March. It was 24 months total because of insurance difficulities. Good Luck and remember it is worth the wait. Sam

Hi Kristen I had expected to wait 6 months to a year, when I started the process. I started last December by going to the educational meeting then the support group. Thereafter, my appointments came quite quickly. I had surgery on May 7th. It took 5 1/2 months. I couldn't believe how quickly the time flew by. I had expected my insurance to delay things, but was pleasantly surprised. I had Dr. Clough also. You will love him. I thought he was the cat's meow. Tells it like it is. He took the time to answer several questions that I had. His bedside manner was great. He was very encouraging and supportive. I have lost 98 pounds since then. I feel awesome!!! I wish you lots of good luck. The wait is worthwhile. Nancy

Hi Kristen, I also had Dr. Clough and would have him be the one to do it all over again if needed. So far I have lost 133 pounds and feeling great. My wait was about 7 months, but had a little bit of confusion with my insurance that delayed me about 3 1/2 weks. Good luck with your journey. It is definitley one worth taking. You will love Dr. Clough!!! Take Care, Kell 301/168/155??
