It's a beautiful place to live Christine. It's and awesome place to raise children. It depends on what part of the state to which you are intending to move. Can't give you much advise about Northern Maine, but Cumberland and York counties have some great schools.

Hi there! I lived in Northern Maine (Caribou) and now live in Old Orchard Beach. My son went to the Old Orchard Beach (OOB) schools and they have a great school. My sister is a principal at a catholic school in Saco which is great. Their public schools are good as well. My son got close to a lot of kids in Scarborough. He said their school is really great! He practically adopted Scarborough High School as one of his own and I think if we could of picked up our house and moved it to Scarborough he would have been extremely happy! If you are going to central Maine my sisters kids went to Hampden (near Bangor). Their school is great. And if you are moving to extreme northern Maine (like where I grew up in Caribou) they have a great system as well. So I guess no matter where you go I think you will be pleased with the school systems. If you like the beach there are many schools nearby so your family can enjoy your summer breaks also. The only problem I find is that the Old Orchard, Saco, Biddeford and Scarborough areas do get very busy during the summer. However that is just for three months then we get our state back and all is well. Good luck on your decision! By the way I looked at your profile - great job on the weight loss! I have not yet had my surgery. I have a years wait. Lots of people around here wanting the surgery. In the meantime, I am trying to lose weight on my own and see where that takes me. Take Care! Lisa

I live in Readfield which is about 20 minutes from Augusta. We have a fantastic school system. Maranacook School system is made up of 4 towns, Readfield, Manchester, Mount Vernon and Wayne. We share a high school and middle school but have our own elementary school. Here is a link to the District website: ://169.244.33.66/~union_42/ The area is close to Belgrade, Lewiston, Winthrop and many other places. I love it here and plan on staying at least till my 4 children are out of school if not for the rest of my life. It is a beautiful place. If you have any questions about the area or Maine in general please feel free to email me. BTW, We live near many many beautiful lakes, great outside recreation. Theresa

Thank you all so much for your responses. It seems like everyone has good things to say. On Oct. 7, my hubby & I are coming to Maine to check it out (I've never been there, but he lived there for a while several years ago). I am really excited! Thanks again! Christine
