Energy level 1 1/2 - 2wks post-op
I just found out that I think I'm having my surgery (open) on 8/19 and I'm scheduled to start college classes on 8/30 . The timing is just awful!!!! Just wondering how energy levels are at 1 1/2 - 2 wks post op and what you're able to do. I would only be having classes 2 days a week. If I don't have surgery on that date I think I'll have to wait until Dec (after this semester) to have the surgery. Just wanted to know how you felt in this short time?
Good morning,
You don't indicate which surgery you are planning to have.
I had open RNY. My energy levels were not high enough to work half-days for 5 weeks. I have spoken with people who were able to work after 3 weeks. This surgery requires a lot of rest and healing time.
If you are having a laproscopic surgery, the situation should be different. A co-worker who had laproscopic RNY was able to return to work after 2 weeks with no problems whatsoever.
In either case, be prepared for the possibility of a complication. Although many do fine with no problems, it can happen and can require a longer rehabilitation.
One final suggestion is to speak with the surgeon and your advisor at the college. You might be able to start the semester as a stay-home student, depending on the two courses.
I wish you the very best for your surgery and your college success.
Kent
Im sorry to hear you might have to post-pone surgery. I know I could not have done it, but I did have open RNY. I was much like Kent with the energy level, maybe a bit worse. But I am also 37 and have 4 children, 2 being toddlers.
The good thing if you do wait is your surgeon should be able to shedual you for early in your break, that should give you plenty of time to recover. You do not want your grades to suffer.
Good luck, please let us know what you decide to do.
