Hi Diana,
I am familiar with COBRA but I do question for you. When you left your job you were give paperwork to continue coverage with Aetna HMO, then after you signed the paperwork and left your job, your former company switched to Cigna (if I understand you correctly). Did your company notify you that you had to switch to the new coverage?
Sometimes, for people that go to COBRA they do not have to switch to the companies new medical coverage. You may want to call your former Human Resource person and get that information from them. Since you have already started a procedure, your concern is with continued coverage for a prediagnosed condition. It is very important that you ask the HR person if the procedure will be covered under the new plan or if you can stay with Aetna HMO COBRA.
I hope this helps, different companies set up agreements with who they are covered with, sometimes, the COBRA benefits are "grandfathered" for people that are in the middle of a procedure, as you are. Make the phone call, or go into talk to the HR person.
Take care,
Cindy K.
