Pain control?
Dear Terri,
I had my surgery almost 4 weeks ago with Dr. Toder and she usually uses a morphine pump instead of an epidural. I was getting sick to my stomach on the pump so they switched me by alternating liquid Percacet and oxycodone. They worked just fine and I was very comfortable. She then sent me home with a prescription for the liquid Percacet which kept me very comfortable at home. I could not have had an epidural because of a previous experience of a spinal leak 12 years ago but going from the notes from others, they didn't seem to have any significant problems. It's great to be on the other side. Hope this helps and good luck in your journey!!! Suzanne C.
Hi Terri,
During surgery you are under with general anesthesia. My epidural didn't work all that great after surgery so I was given the morphine pump. There is still some pain with either choice...
I don't know exactly how to explain the advantages/disadvantages...I know I felt crappy with the morphine, but I had never had it before then either.
Talk to your surgeon, they can give you a better idea of what to expect for your personal situtation.
Goodluck!
Casey
