Pregnancy in the first year after WLS. Anyone else?
I am about 10 weeks along with my second child. I conceived about 6 months after my vertical banded gastroplasty. Wasn't really planned, but DH and I have always wanted a second child eventually. So we're thrilled.
I'm wondering if anyone else out there had an 'oops' in their first year out and how things went for them. I am still losing, though much more slowly. I try to keep the focus on getting enough protein, taking my vitamins, drinking water and eating whole foods. I'm also eating MUCH more than the recommended 1000 calorie post-WLS diet recommended by my doctor, about 1600 to 1800 calories on average. But I'm still losing. I know that eating healthy food is probably better than eating calorie-laden crap just to gain the appropriate amount of weight.
I'd be reassured to hear others' stories of healthy pregnancies while still losing.
Thanks, all.

ObesityHelp magazine had an article about this very subject, wish I could find it now. I am done having my babies but wanted to wish you luck, you will enjoy this one as much if not more then the first because it will be easier to keep up.
I am curious if you went to an OB that specializes in high risk pregnauncies(sp) or just stayed local.
Dr Peterson or Dr Cooper always delivered my babies and I know I would have stayed with them if I had another one after WLS. I trust them with my life and that of my children.
Please keep us posted.

Dr. Cooper happens to be my doctor. He's been great so far. I have my next appointment June 1st and, if things are still looking good then, I think I'll feel very much relieved.
I want to start a very mild exercise program, walking 15 minutes a day or doing water aerobics 3 times a week, but worry that I'll take off even more weight. This may not be the time.
Oh well, I'll chat with the doc and see what he says.
Hey Lara... I found out about my 'surprise' when I was just about 8.5 months out. She was conceived at around 7 months. I had Madeline on February 6th, a beautiful, healthy girl. My OB was out of Waterville OB/GYN. I made sure to ask if they'd had bypass mothers as patients before, and they have.
I was really paranoid about not eating enough, but everyone reassured me that the baby would get what she needed, even if she had to rob it from me. Just make sure you take your vitamins and get plenty of water and rest! Good luck and feel free to email me if you have any questions!
