Plateau already???????
Hey everyone
I had open RNY on April 5, 2004. So far I've lost 28 lbs in just a little over 2 weeks which I think is amazing. I am still on liquids which makes it hard for me to believe that I have not lost anything in 2 days. I know that a plateau is not having lost any weight for a lot longer than 2 days but shouldn't I still be losing just due to the fact that my caloric intake is so low. I'm not getting discouraged, I just thought that I would ask you experts. Besides that I am doing awesome. I wish that I would have these darn staples out but Dr. Toder is on vacation this week and I have to wait until week 3 to have them out for that reason. My incision is really starting to itch. Did any of you end up with a bed sore in the hospital? You should see the the sore that I have on the back. I can't see it but everytime my children look at it they always give me a hug and say "Poor Mom", lol. If anyone did end up with a bed sore, how did you treat it? My primary care gave me some prescription antibiotic cream but it's not really taking care of it. I plan on showing Dr. Toder on Monday. Anyway enough with all my questions. Hope you all are doing great, have a wonderful day.

I'm surprised that you think you have a bed sore. You have to lie in the same postiion for hours for the circulation to stop. I'd look into something else, but I'd definitely call the doctor today. You don't want it to get worst. Nip it in the butt right away. About your plateau...it's normal that soon after the operation. I know because when it happened to me I researched it and found that it was to be expected that soon after surgery. Don't fret, soon you'll be on your way down again.... Be positive and celebrate every lb that you've lost. Don't look ahead, always look at what you've accomplished so far. It'll keep a smile on your face. Good luck with the sore. Lului
Sorry Sharon: My surgery was on Dec. 4--I've had so many plateaus that thought I would scream. I've been told and now believe it--that these are one way to slow the process down so that our bodies can get caught up with itself. Some last longer than others. However, what I've done is continue to do what I was told to do---protein, water, vitamins and exercise(well when you can do these things). Lose the impatience---you won't believe how much you will lose over time. For me, since Dec. 73 pounds and down five sizes. Believe me--it will happen. You are doing great, I only lost 18 pounds in two weeks.
keep up the great work--don't worry but do have the bedsore taken care of.

Sharon,
Dont worry about the weightloss. It will continue!!!!!!!! I think I may have hit my first plateau. The scales have not moved in 2 1/2 weeks. It's getting annoying but I have put the scales out of sight for a while.
About the bedsore.. That surprises me. I didn't wal****il about 5 days out of surgery. (not lazy, have a neuromuscular disease and the trauma to my body from surgery had me down for that long). I didn't have any bedsores. I would get that treated as soon as possible.. It sounds painful...
Take care and again. the weightloss WILL continue!!!

Sharon,
You are doing great! Don't worry about how fast or how often the pounds melt away, just rest assured that they WILL melt away, haha. It may be a good idea to chuck the scale out the window for a bit, weighing too often can be depressing.
About your sore...is it in the spot where your epidural was? Maybe it's a minor reaction to the medicine, tape, or something like that?
Hope you are feeling well!
Casey
Casey,
Dr. Toder does not use an epidural, she uses a P.C.A. I think the sore was a result of the pad that they used on the bed. Everytime I would scoot myself up it would get all wrinkled up underneath me thus I believe causing that sore. It is healing up though. It ran all the way across the small of my back and now it is only about a couple of inches wide. I think I will survive, lol. Thanx for the concern.

Hi Sharon, this is my first time posting here but I just had to give my two cents about my experience with plateaus. I had my surgery a little over 15 months ago and I think I am on a plateau more often than I'm off. I can go 2 1/2- 3 weeks without losing an ounce and then lose 5-6 lbs! I must agree with the woman who said this is the time our body uses to adjust (at least that's what gets me through it). Anyway, stay positive, do what you are suppose to do and you will see the results. Although my weight loss has slowed down a lot, I am so extremely proud to say that I have lost 138 pounds!! Best of luck to you!!!
