Low Blood Sugar

Last night I had a very big problem, my blood sugar dropped to 58. I was done eating dinner at 6pm and went out to jump on the trampling at 6:15 to 6:30 PM. when I was coming in the house I wasn't feeling good. Still didn't feel good, I was sweating and shaking so I checked my blood sugar and it was only 68. so I had tea with sugar and honey and a piece of watermelon hoping that would help, but it didn't. between 7pm and 8:30 I don't know what was going on, I think I might of pasted out from it. at 8:30 I heard my husband say it was almost bed time so I got up and started getting ready for bed. But I started feeling worse then I did before, shaking really bad and really sweaty. So I checked my blood sugar in my left finger and it was 59. I didn't think that could be right so I checked it in the right finger and it was 58. That got me really nervous that it was that low. I ended up calling the ER and they told my to have some OJ and some bread and peanut butter, to get it back up so I did and in under an hour I was up to 167. Called back to let the ER know I was OK again and I didn't need the ambulance that they told me they could send for me if needed when I spoke to them the first time. I never did tell them about the 1 1/2 hours that I think I was passed out. If I had I'm sure they would of told me to get my butt over there so they could admit me. I still worked out this morning but went home early from work because the whole low blood sugar thing it really drained me. Spoke with my doctor's office today and they want me to test my blood sugar 4 times a day for the next 48 hours and let them know what the results are. Hopefully the results are O.K. and I won't need any more meds or anything. But I guess I still need to watch the carbs but I need to make sure I have enough of them and not cut them all out like I was trying to do.

I know what that is like. Lows are more dangerous than highs. Mine average 145 to 160 in the morning fasting and I'm taking 50 units of Lantus. Dr. Clough wanted me to stop all my meds but my own dietion in Dover said to keep taking the Lantus until my fasting blood sugars were below 140 for 2 weeks. Sometimes I cheat a little and eat too many carbs then they get high again. You are doing better than I am but continue to check your sugars and don't do anything out of the ordinary so your doc can get a feel on what your body is doing. Take care Ron

Sorry to see you had such a rough time! I do hope this is controllable for you. I know I have times I feel like that. Maybe I should get a testing thing? How does that work? Hope things are going well, Casey

Hi Jennifer, I am so sorry to hear you going through these ups and especially the lows in your blood sugar. Have you talked to the dietician about what you can do to help get control of it? You went through a scary time, & I hope that you are able to find the equal balance of carbs to level out. I think of you often, and will send a prayer up for you also. Hugs, Cindy K.
