Post-surgery leg numbness

Hi, Eight days after surgery, I have trouble sleeping when I lie down , because my thighs go numb and then I get pins and needles. Since I am still unable to be on my side, the only position change is to move to the recliner. A nurse at Dr Clough's office said that this was probably caused by the way I was positioned on the operating table and should ease up after a while. Anyone else experience this? Otherwise, things are going great! Kent

Hi Kent my dear, I was all over icky feeling post op so I know what you are going through. Although I don't recall leg numbness on the top of the list. It could be a pinched nerve from the table as the nurse indicated. Have you been able to walk around? Think a clot is possible? I don't remember when it was but after a while I couldn't stand laying on my back so I used pillows to prop up my big belly so I could lay on my side. I also used a pillow between my knees for comfort. Casey

Thanks! I walk everyday outside for at least 15 minutes...sometimes twice if I'm not too tired. The eating is going quite well. I have tolerated everything although I never ever feel like eating. The nausea comes and goes at a bearable level. Dr Clough's PA gave me a perscription for nausea, but I have not taken it as it wasn't severe. Pain is managed with Advil during the day and a perscription at night...just to assure sleep. I have an appointment on Wed to have my first follow-up, and the nurse said to bring the pins and needles stuff up then if it's still happening. The pants I wore the day before surgery are already quite loose. I get excited and then have to take a nap. LOL I'll keep you posted Casey, Val and all. Kent

Kent, I'm sorry to hear of the numbness. I can understand why you would be concerned. I think if I were you I would give it another week and let the Drs. office know it has not gone away or gotten any better. I pray nothing is wrong. How is the eating going? Do you find some days you just don't feel like eating anything? Sometimes, I wish I could live off of popsicles. They go down so nicely. Keep us posted as to how things are going and if the pins and needles go away. thought and prayers, Val

Kent, I still have numbness in my legs when I'm in a sitting position and I'm a month out. I am worried about it too. I haven't asked the Dr. what is causing it, but will when I go back on the 31st. I thought that I was probably the only one that had experienced this. I'm wondering if it's where the epidural was in there and maybe they hit a nerve or something. The bottom half of my legs and my feet go numb and get all tingly and feel like pins and needles are sticking in them. Good luck at your appointment and I'll be waiting to hear what you find out.
