Any Canadians here and / or people who know Canadians?

I have read so many stories here this week - thank you ALL so much for sharing. I'm feeling really optimistic but I would like to know if there are any Canadians here and / or if anyone knows of a Canadian who has successfully had the WLS surgery in Maine and been covered? I've sent emails this weekend to both Cobean and Clough's offices so hope to hear something back within the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, I've printed off information to take to my doc as soon as I can get in. If you know of any Canadian successes, please email me ([email protected]) and thank you again to those who are sharing their journey via their webpages.

I don't know about having it done here in Maine... I am a Canadian who married an American and was living in FL when I had mine done. HOWEVER, my mom told me months ago that there was a lady in Perth-Andover, NB who was fighting with NB Medicare over it and she had it done in Nova Scotia. Maybe in Halifax? Anyway, there was a piece on the CBC news about it.. perhaps you can email CBC and get some information that way. ALso, there are many many AMOS members in western canada who have had success getting their medical coverage for weight loss surgery. Every province has different rules.. but as a Canadian, sometimes you can get treatment in different provinces. I know that I was able to see the doctor whenever I needed to when I lived in Edmonton, even though my Medicare number was for New Brunswick. Good Luck in your journey.

How helpful are they? Wow! I rec'd an email back from Lynn Bolduc answering many of my questions. She said the time to surgery is about 6 months right now, which was wonderful! She also told me that Canadian Medicare will not cover the Roux-en-Y surgery but they will cover the lap band. Back to the message boards / journey pages now for me to read up on people that have had that. I've been following all you Roux-en-Y people so far and gotten excited. Dr Clough's office is sending me information in the mail - I have a copy of the form for my doctor, as well as a price chart for "self pay". I doubt that I could ever afford self-pay but it's good to know in case I win the lottery eh? CascoBay's email service was awful. I think the lady's name was Edson and she simply wrote back that there is a 1 year waiting list and I would be better to get it in Canada. I was disappointed as all the glowing reports of Dr. Cobean had left me hopeful. Perhaps they are super-busy there but better email etiquette would have been nice Again thanks to everyone here for sharing their stories - this board is so helpful to me!
