I would like to understand what role a buddy plays in this surgery/weight loss experience. I don't have a buddy but Dr. Cobean's office tells me I must have one. Thanks.

Well, from what I understand, it is the same as an "Angel" that this site has. It is a person that is there for you for support and assistance once you get home. The best thing to do would be to contact Dr. Cobean's office and find out if that is what he are talking about. Cindy Lap RNY 6/20/03

Dorothy, Your "buddy" is your support person. They need to go with you to your information session and your appts. (at least one appt.) This person is the one that you will be relying on to help you after surgery. It is a person that you feel comfortable with that you can talk to and help you out whenever you need it. Most people use their spouse, sibling or friend. I emailed you today, I live right in North Waterboro. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you since we live so close to each other and have the same doc. Good Luck and I can't wait to hear from you. Sam

Thanks for the reply, Sam! By "help me out whenever I need it" do you mean emotionally or physically? I won't need any physical help after the operation, do you think? I live alone and don't have anyone who I could ask to be my buddy. Do you know how long we have to wait until we can drive? Have you been to a support meeting yet? I hope to go on 3/2. I was going to go in February but it was snowing so I stayed home. I went to one meeting and met the surgeon, dietician and mental health lady. I also went to an ultrasound plus saw a pulmonary doctor to check my lungs. I am trying to find out everything I can about this operation so I will be prepared! I picked up some Atkins shakes today at Walmart as they have no sugar, low in carbs and 20 g of protein. I thought I might be able to digest them after the operation. I also got a blender. Are you planning on eating blended food or baby food for the first month? As you can see I have a million questions! Thanks for any answers!

Hi Dorothy, I was just reading this post and the reply one near the bottom and I just wanted to say I was planning on replying to your posts but you are going through a different surgeons program than me so whatever I say may not be in keeping with what they prefer. Since I see there is someone else here who has Cobean I will try not to interfere. I can answer questions though about recipes, exercise etc just not sure what the protocol is for your surgeons program. Goodluck, Casey
