Food texture?

I'm four weeks out and just started trying to introduce non blended foods. I find myself chewing something for a few minutes and spitting it out . I'm not sure why but I don't feel like swallowing some textures. It is kind of gross for people eating around me. I ate wonton soup and the broth went down fine but I spit out more than half of the veggies in the soup and the meat in the wonton. Does anyone else ever feel like spitting things out? The blended food stage seems so much easier than actually trying to figure out what foods I like the texture of now.

Hi Teresa, It is normal to have food texture problems. It all changes the further along you get post-op. I went through it, & just avoided the foods that didn't feel right, and tried them again a few months later. Now the foods I did like, seem to have a texture to them. I do believe we will swing back & forth during a process. Just put the foods that don't feel right away & try them again another day. Take Care and congratulations on the surgery. Cindy K. This will pass, in the beginning it is all trial and error. I remember wanting a fried egg sandwich so bad. (no butter) I made one at about 6 weeks out. ICKY!!! I hate bread now. Grossssssss. Nothing about it is good. Just give it time, keep trying different things. Eventually it will get better. Good luck! Theresa

Oh Hon ~ you are going to find foods that you loved pre-op, you absolutely hate post-op!! I was so addicted to chinese food and now I wouldn't take a bite of it if you paid me!! I also no longer eat bread, pasta or rice!! Just don't like the way they make me feel!!

It may never pass but it could. I hated not only textures but smells, they made me throw up. The meat textures are the worse but veges are still too tuff. I am 4 months out and still can't handle much at all. All my freinds say they were the same way. Chicken is really gross now to me and ground meats like the wonton is worse. I lost faster by drinking buttermil 1% and milk 1% forget the textured foods and try to avoid the bread products like with wontons and breads and rice. That all will put you on a plateau. Liquids! Protein shakes! Make yourself some zpina Coladas with your protein powder, use vanilla flavor and put coconut and pineapple flavorings in it with shaved ice, yummy stuff. Do a banana and coconut shake, get creative and stop worrying abiut food you truely don't need t now. I am still only on 2 meals a day and the rest is purely protein drinks and bananas, nuts will go down great. All RX of my doctor, Raw pumpkin seeds, sunflower (the busy of the cracking is good he told me) and almonds. The heavier the food like nuts the easier it goes. Now the lighter like pasta makes me throw up. Good luck and God Bless!
