I live alone. Has your food bill gone down after your wls? Does your cat or dog eat better? I expect my food bill to go down, would this be reasonable? I have asked some at the support meetings and they say the quality of the food is higher therefore the bill is higher. Thanks for your help. Ron

Ron, I think it is up to the individual.. I am still pretty new post-op, but I have been spending a bit on different things. I like the Carb Countdown chocolate milk..NSA Carnation Instant Breakfast, lowfat and sf things tend to be a little more expensive, BUT think of how long it will last just you alone. I share my stuff with my kids. They love the CC chocolate milk and it is better for them!! I made a vow never to let the kids think that these things are specially for me. If they want to eat the good stuff, more power to them.. So for me, yes it is a jump in grocery bills, but for you, It seems you will save in the long run.. Do you have anyone going to the hospital with you for surgery or staying with you at all after wards?? Kell

Hi Kell My Pastor is bringing me in and my good friend Bob Mowdy said he'd be there when I wake up. I have 2 sisters and 1 brother here in the area. The sisters work. My brother said he'd come and help me at home. Many in my church are praying for me. I've contacted a number of friends who say they will stop by. I don't have anyone that says they will stay with me 24/7. Guess that's alot to expect. thanks Ron

Hi Ron...My bill has gone down and yes the cats getting bigger LOL. He loves it now that i have had surgery he gets good stuff. Sometimes my bill is alittle higher when i buy Slenda or something like that but it lasts me forever. I eat alot of soup which isn't that expensive but then again those lean cuisine meals i get are about $2 plus but one meal a day its not to bad...i eat half for lunch and half for supper. I buy ice tea in bulk and bottled water..so i think i do save in the long run. I just don't feel like eating...i treat myself sometimes to shrimp. Its hard for me to really give an answer because of having a different surgery then most all the rest of the people here have. My surgeon has me on 800 calories a day and i eat maybe 500. It takes getting used to after my surgery it was so hard when i saw a subway commercial or pizza commerical on the tv...i wanted to go out and get something but i didn't..couldn't believe i had that much willpower but i overcame it and now they don't bother me at all. I think you might find as with me i started loosing weight had more energy and just am not that hungry. I keep a bottle of water and or ice tea with me all the time and that satisys me for the need to put something in my mouth i guess. I think i said in another post that my being alone when i came home was a snap. I had someone stopping in a couple times a day but was really fine and like i said i got that cordless phone if i needed anything which i didn't. Used a cane to help with walking outside till i felt comfortable. I was alittle nervous of walking on uneven ground but that was fine too. Pace yourself don't do to much at once. And get a blender for those yummy puree'd foods...mmmmm mmmmm good LOL NOT. Puree'd hotdogs aren't all that and more. Best wishes Sally

My food bill went up but that is mostly because I do not want to eat what I feed the family. As for being alone after surgery, I would have preffered it. But I have 4 children, that alone makes the big difference. I mostly wanted to be left alone the first 3 days after I got home. I might be different then others, but I just wanted to do as I wanted without having to smile and be nice or chat. Each day after the 1st week I was more sociable. I think you will do find no matter what, you are just that type of guy. Theresa

Ron, As you know I don't live alone but thought I'd reply anyway... I think for a while we were spending a bit more cause in the beginning it was a struggle to find things that I could try and if I didn't like it my husband could have. So there was some money/food waste at first. But we actually just buy the same things as before now. We always had healthy stuff so it wasn't much of a change having surgery. Except of course the portions. So groceries last alot longer now...leftovers are abundant. You'll get into the swing of things in no time. But if you ever need meal ideas or anything feel free to email me. Casey
