Staples

Does it hurt getting staples out? I feel like when they take them out everything is going to come apart.. I know I am being weird but this is my first experience with staples and it feels like it will hurt.. On the other hand, it has healed quite nicely. After they come out, do you have to be careful again as it is tender again or is it held there real good? A paranoid Kell~

I did not have staples after my wls, but after the c-sections I did. They always took them out in the hospital before I came home. It burned a bit but that was it. Really quick work, wasn't that bad. Good luck wusssy. Kidding!! But yanno, after all you have gone through, the staples cant compare. Theresa

Hi, don't be scared. Staples coming out don't hurt. I am the biggest baby when it comes to pain. I had to have 28 staples for my c-section all the way up my belly. They did not hurt coming out at all...it just felt gross sliding out of your skin. Good luck! Sam

I wouldn't get too worked up about it. I had 17 staples with my WLS and the skin in that area stays numb for quite a while. I never felt the staples coming out, and I watched each one come out. There is a little tweezer thingy that bends them in the middle and they come out - they aren't yanked out. You will find that you feel much better with them out (mine got quite itchy) and as long as you take it easy for a couple months you won't likely have issues with incision openings or hernias. Hang in there - staple removal is NOTHING compared to surgery.
