Well Christmas didn't turn out the way it was suppose to this year. My little nephew was admitted to the hospital on Dec 23. the Sunday before the 23rd, he broke out with legions on his head. Then the next day he had diarrhea all day. then on the 23 my sister took him to the Dr.s and they told her she needed to take him to Easter Maine medical Center because the Dr. thought the baby had contracted Herpes. My sister and brother-in-law got him to the hospital and watched as that poor almost two week old baby was catheterized, for a urine sample, had a spinal tap and then had to have a seconded one because it wasn't in the right location. Plus he had to have blood drawn, and it took several times before they could get the blood out because his veins kept collapsing because they where just to small. finally they got the blood out of the heal of his foot, but they had to keep squeezing his foot to get the blood for the 2 little vials. Also they had to peal the legions of his head so those could be tested too, and they also had to put an IV in him. The night of the 23rd they where told if it was herpes my nephew would be in the hospital two weeks for treatment if it hadn't gone into his spinal cord. If it was in his spinal cord he would be in the hospital for 4 weeks. Needles to say they where very upset and they couldn't figure out how this could of happened to their son. There is a very high percentage of women that have herpes and have never had a sign of it to indicate that they have the disease. My sister has been thinking she could be one of these women, but she saw her gynecologist yesterday and was told she tested negative to having the herpes virus. So it is believed that some one with a cold sore kissed the baby on the head and gave that poor little boy herpes, What a nice Christmas gift for him to get, NOT!!!! I truly wish that when adults saw a baby they would remember they are adults and not go gaga over the sight of a cute little baby. If you are a parent don't let people you don't know hold or touch your child. You need to remember you don't know this person and don't know what type of disease they might have to pass on to your child. If you are a person that sees a cute baby, just tell the parent the child is cute but don't get close to it or touch it. You don't know what you might of just caught for a disease, and babes have no immune system to fight it off, and with there lives just beginning they don't need to go through it. We made planes with my sister and Brother-in-law to have Christmas at their house when the baby was released from the hospital, and we would have are Christmas at our house on Christmas morning like normal and would just take the presents to their house when we had Christmas with them. But on Christmas eve day a little miracle happened, the hospital had agreed to let the baby leave the hospital after his morning treatment so he could have his first Christmas. So by 9AM my sister, her husband and their son was at my house to have Christmas. We had time to have the stockings, and presents under the tree. I had dinner ready by 12PM and they we had dessert and then they had to pack up and go back to the hospital. But at least we got to have Christmas together. After my nephew was admitted to the hospital an they told me they had paid over $10 just for a burger, fries and a small bag of chips each. I started doing some cooking so they could have it up there to help them out. I had some peanut butter balls left over that had been made for a Christmas party my daughter had at school, I made sugar cookies with frosting on them, and muffins. Plus I bought a big bag of chips for them and a few bottles of soda for them. Plus after Christmas dinner before they went back to the hospital I carved the turkey up and filled a container of turkey for then so they could make sandwiches. Yesterday My sister and her husband found out that their son did for sure have herpes but the good news was they where going to let him go home in a few days and would have a home health nurse visit him to give him his treatment. He will be on medication for it till January 13, that's 3 weeks. A very long time for suck a young life.
