Staples

As I get closer to my date of Dec. 4th--I find I have more questions. Ok--so the stomach is stapled----do they stay that put? Any precautions we have to take in the future?l If I go on a wild ride at an amusement park--can I dislodge them? What about going through airports--will we set off alarms? I sort of wondered about this recently. Seems a bit foolish--but I woke up at 3:00 a.m. and these questions came to mind. Any feedback?

I think most of us had questions like these as our date got closer. From what I understand our flesh grows around the staples and sorta makes them part of us. No real precautions as far as the staples in the future. I have heard people say we should have a med-alert bracellet or something so if we ever are in the ER they will know not to tube us, or to tube us differently. The staples are not made of metal, can't remember what they are made of, but they will not set off metal detecors. Feel free to ask anything, we have all been where you are or will be where you are. Good luck! Theresa Cloutier ObesityHelp Staff OpenRNY 7/15/03 235/181/140?135

Just wanted to correct something, the staples are made from a form of metal. The staples are Titanium, which is a strrong low-density, highly corrosion-resistant, and do not set of metal detectors. This type of metal is the same of alloy that is used in aircraft metals. I had the same questions aboput the staples and asked Dr. Clough about it when I meet with him for the first time.

Great questions Jane! I've wondered the same recently.
