Lap RNY means the surgery was done laproscopically not open (5-10" incision). I would suggest that you search for info online and read as much as you can about the surgery types. Lap Band is an adjustable band that goes around your stomach to restrict food intake. The Roux-En-Y (RNY) gastric bypass will section off a small portion of your stomach AND bypass several inches of your upper intestine to promote malabsorbtion and increase weight loss. I had my surgery done by Dr. Clough on June 12th...open (5" incision) etc. I have lost 70lbs. Read my profile for more info. So anyhoo just use whatever search engine you prefer and look for alot of stuff...search: Bariatric surgery, Bariatric Association, Roux-En-Y, Lap BAND, WLS (weight loss surgery). You will find TONS AND TONS of info/websites etc. BUT don't believe EVERYTHING you read. Take it for what it is and go to the support group meetings to get accurate information, don't forget to go to the Education Class first...you will get a binder with a bunch more info.

Oops...I just noticed your surgeon is in Augusta...I don't know what they run for a program there...you had better ask them about the groups or what they have for education. But of course still use the internet as a resource. Good luck to you.
