Preop liquid diet Day two

So I made it through the first day with no problems. Today however I have been dealing with a horrible migraine all day today. I haven't been overly hungry though. I am not sure if the migraine is due to not eating or if its from coffee withdrawals? Which leads me to my question? Can I have coffee? I don't see it in my phase 2 diet book.

Hi there!

Sorry it took so long to get back to you!

I'm sorry, but I don't have a definitive answer for you!  I don't believe you can, though I have to be honest, since I don't drink it myself, even if they told me not to drink it, I'm sure I didn't listen (since I don't drink it anyway.)

Not like you don't have enough on your plate (or, rather, NOTHING on your plate HA!!!), but, maybe this is a good time to wean yourself from that nasty habit too...hahaha...But seriously...I bet this would be a good time to give up the coffee...at least for four weeks...

I still crave soda...it's the one thing that's been REALLY hard for me...there's nothing like an ice-cold fountain soda, with a straw...Mmmmmmm...But I haven't had any.

Can anyone give her a more definitive answer about coffee???

Thanks David. I was just wondering because I thought my migraine yesterday may be due to not having my coffee. The migraine is gone now so I am not really worried about it. I know that we can NOT have coffee for at least the first two weeks post op but I know eventually we can. I was just desperate to cure the migraine yesterday and finally I just cured it by going to sleep :)

Thanks for all of your support! I am ROCKING DAY THREE :)

My wife says you CAN have coffee in the two-weeks pre-op (at least she did...and she was pretty sure that was in the Week 1 book...)

I used to get those caffeine hangovers too...I got mine from soda (mostly Mtn. Dew...)...Oy, what I wouldn't give for a found soda right now...

Keep on' Rockin'!!!

(Connie says there's actually a recipe for mocha coffee IN the book they give you for the two weeks before...The orange Phase 2 book...)

Better to get the withdrawel over with now than deal with that early post op, you'll have other stuff to deal with then!  Glad you are feeling better.

Kelly is right. I'm a coffee drinker and went through with drawl after surgery- terrible headaches and feeling wiped out- more than just from surgery/anesthesia.
I wish I had tapered off prior to surgery.

Now- it's another story- I enjoy my coffee. DH and joke about what size me cup is. It and my water bottle are the only things in my life now that are extra large!

I am doing great David! Thanks for checking on me! Its kind of routine at this point! I even was able to cook an entire bbq for my dad and husband today without too much suffering! Just need to get packed up a bit. My husband and I are heading to Bangor next Sunday since my surgery is the first one in the am. Do you know if those tv's in the rooms have headphone jacks? I heard its noisy at night up there and I would like to drown out the noise if I can!

Hi there!

Yes, the TV's in the rooms DO have jacks, and they take those 1/8th in mini-plug jacks...so any standard MP3 player headphone, etc, will work fine.  Incidentally, I took my MP3 player to listen too, because, frankly, they have a lousy channel selection...so if you have an MP3 player, load that up with some tunes, because you might wish you had that.  It REALLY helped me sleep when my neighbor was noisy at night (all night, EVERY night...)  But, I slept like a baby when I turned the MP3 player and and chilled...  :-)

Thanks David! I figured since I have heard its pretty noisy at night up there I would have an easier time falling asleep to the tv than the noise. I do have an Ipod and i will bring that with me too :)
