Hey Jeannie, when you are in the recovery room after surgery, ask if you can have Casey as your tech...she's GREAT!!!  She took care of both me AND my wife, and we were so pleased, we sent letters to EMMC praising her hard work and extra patient care.  I'm not kidding when I say if you want the very best care after surgery, you would get it with Casey.  :-)

My best friend in recovery was an MP3 player and some magazines.  The MP3 player can help you rest at night by playing music to cover up all the ambiant noise around you.

And if you DO get Casey, tell her David & Connie Reed STILL rave about how great she was to us.  :-)

I took my Ipod with me and sadly something happened to my earphones and they would not work.  Just my luck LOL  So word to the wise make sure your ipod and earphones are in working order before you leave. LOL

I had so many nurses/techs that I can't remember them all.  I did however have a man that was named Ceilie or how ever you spell it.  I can always remember it because of the show Bones Agent Booth his first name was Ceilie LOL  He was pretty nice and did tell the staff they were being too loud after there were lots of complaints from patients.

Good luck

They should have headphones there you can use to plug into the little TV's in the room, and those are standard headphones, with a 1/8th inch mini-plug.  I can't speak to iPod's, because I don't have an iPod, but any normal headphone jack, they can loan you a set of headphones (for the TV), but they will plug into any normal MP3 player I know of as just a standard jack.

Hope that helps!!!
