Feeling like a failure
So I had my 6 week check up today with the doctor, and I have my appt with the nut this afternoon. Since my actual surgery date I've only lost rough 18lbs. Alli n all with the two week liquid diet my total is roughly 38lbs lost. I've been stuck at the same weight now for around 2 weeks. My doc told me today to excersize more....so that is what I will do and hope that I start losing again. At this point I am sad and worried that now not only will I remain fat, I'll be even more miserable because I can't eat any comfort food to be ok with being fat, if that makes any sense lol. Ok, I am done my whining. Typical things I am eating these days are cucumbers, chicken, soup, fruit, peanut butter, lowfat cheese, and a few other things. I usually drink 1 to 2 bottles of water per day, which I know isn't enough either. Well....just wanted to update and share with you all.
Now Nathan ( i gonna sound like your mom) you know you got to drink. Drink drink. It will make you not feel so hungry and help make the right choices. Remember this is not head surgery so you will have to get creative. Calories in
Calories out. So Dr Haung is correct in bumping up the exercise. But also try writing down every thing you eat to see what your calorie intake in a day is.
Drinking especially during this hot weather is crucial.
Hope you are feeling better soon . I am all done sounding like your mom!!! lol Yes stalls and plateaus happen. We were talking about it at support group last week.
Take care!!!

I was sooo bummed to miss the group last week, I took my wife and kids to Fun Town so we wern't around. I'm hoping to be at the next one though, and thank you for your advice, and it's fine that you sounded like my mom :) I feel like I was so prepared before the surgery, and since it's happend I've turned into a complete dummy LOL Time to pull out the red binder and read it over and over again.
Hi Nathan,
First of all, 38 lbs is nothing to sneeze at. Good job! I hit a plateau around the 6 week mark, too. What helped me to break it was more water and more protein. Add an extra shake. I know they're disgusting, but you'll soon forget about the flavor when the weight starts falling off again. Keep with the plan. The easiest thing to do at this point is to say "Oh well, I'm not losing anyway" and then not stick with the program. Fight that urge.
You're doing great and what's happening to you sounds normal especially if your fluid intake is down. I hate to sound crude, but if you don't feel the constant (or almost constant) urge to pee at this point, you're probably not taking in enough fluid. Set goals for yourself. I would lay out 6 bottles of water a day and that would be my goal. Before breakfast, I had a bottle (usually sipped it on my morning walk). After breakfast, I had a bottle. Mid morning I had a bottle. After lunch I had a bottle. Mid afternoon, I had a bottle and then after dinner I had a bottle. I was in the bathroom constantly, but it really did help the weight to come off.
You are NOT a failure. You CAN do this!! Keep coming here for support. We've all been through it and we understand.

hi Nathan! You are the closest one I know of to my surgery date, so I am always watching for updates from you. You are NOT a failure. Think abou being 6 weeks out and down 18 pounds...thats three pounds a week. When in your previous life did you ever lose 3 pounds a week? I bet it wasnt often, if ever. thats almost half a pound a day, Nathan. DONT expect to lose faster than your body is ready for. And do drink more, it is so important. I discovered that drinking more and getting a few more calories really helps. If you dont eat enough, your body tries to hold onto the weight cause it thinks you are starving. Have you been moved to regular diet yet? That will help, too. In this heat, you better be drinking a lot, ok?
PS I started the gym that comes with the surgery through EMMC today and loved it. Have you been cleared to start yet?

Sorry you are having a hard time. Stalls happen and are frustrating but if you follow the rules you will lose. Try doing more protein, more water and cut out the fruit. I tend to be very carb sensitive and don't lose when I eat them. Now that I am maintaining I have been able to add them back into my diet. Good luck and keep your chin up!
Weight includes 21 Pounds lost on 2 Week Pre-op Diet
You don't sound like a failure to me either! You should probably increase your water intake though. In this heat and humidity, it is EXTREMELY important. My surgeon stopped in to our support group meeting tonight and told us that dehydration is the #1 complication post WLS and STRESSED that AT LEAST 64 ounces of water a day is critical! That will also help with the "hunger". I agree with the others that fruit may not be your best option right now. fill yourself up with some protein (shakes, turkey/chicken roll ups with low fat cheese, greek yogurt....you get the idea). Remember to get your meals and snacks in so your body doesn't feel like it's starving. Just keep on the plan and the weight will continue to drop.
I lost "weird" all through my journey (I'd lose 4-5 pounds in 1 week and nothing the rest of the month. It's discouraging, but it DOES come off if you stick to your surgeon's plan!!)
You can do it! Keep you chin up and be proud of what you have accomplished so far! Enjoy the rollercoaster ride of WLS..... (it's better than the Excalibur! haha)
