5 days out!

It's hard to believe that I had gastric bypass 5 days ago.
Saturday, I walked just under a mile and worked on keeping fluids in.
Sunday, we went to Dysart's for Mother's Day - a family tradition.  I ordered veggie soup and just had the broth.  The rest of the family eating didn't bother me.  I ended up walking just over a mile over the course of the day.  I also switched from prescription pain meds to liquid tylenol.  I also only managed about 10 grams of protein.
Today, the scale says I've lost 4 pounds since surgery.  I've had 20 grams of protein -unjury chocolate plus skim milk.  Except for a runny nose, I'm doing well.

I think that being a positive thinker is important as well as following directions.

This next part may be TMI - but, surprisingly to me, I've had liquid BM's - small amounts.  Is this typical?  I thought I wouldn't have anything until I ate more traditional meals. . .

Anyways, I'm glad I did this.

31 lbs. lost before surgery!  My goal is 150lbs.  My surgeon's goal is 110lbs.  I just can't imagine that weight right now.  Maybe someday . . .

Sounds like you are doing great!  The BM's sound exactly what I had, liquid for days and then it went the other direction with no BM for days.  Sounds normal based on my experience.  Keep up the good work!

Hi all!  I am new to this, and just went for my initial Dr. visit Friday.  I am going to Drs. Loggins/Bang in Lewiston.  I'd like to be able to chat with people who are going through, or have gone through what I am.  I live in Maine, and would love tohear how you all are doing!
Thanks!

Hi Heather~

This is a remarkable life experience.  Take your time, read, ask questions, go to support groups, think, begin to make changes.

One of the first big changes I made at the beginning was giving up Diet Coke.  I went cold turkey.  The first 2 weeks were hard but after that it was relatively easy.  I didn't give up caffeine but, I ingest far less than I did when I drank Diet Coke.

Good Luck!

Cheers,
Debbie

I can understand the Diet Coke thing...I am a Mt. Dew girl...drink if from morning till night...the caffeine doesn't bother me at all, because I am addicted to it I suppose.  I have quit soda before and the headaches were awful.  I am cutting down this time, only had one yesterday, and so far none today...I'm drinking water, which I would normally not do unless I was "dieting".  Working on making water a part of my life, instead of soda.
Wishing you well...I look forward to hearing about your progress!

Sounds like you are right on track.  Liquid in=liquid out.  It'll get better once your food has more consistency.  Stay hydrated!  Keep us posted!
