pre-op liquid diet

Hey all I have Dr. Todor and am having my surgery next Monday.  I am on the liquid diet and right now I'm doing the New Lifestyle shakes I had left from a prior weight loss attempt.  The plan called for shakes all day except a lean meat and veggie dinner but I've been doing it all liquid.  My question is two part, for the past couple days I've only had like 700 calories which seems low and in the 4 days I've done it I've only lost 4 lbs (seems I remember more stunning weight loss than that from before) and I've been exercising every day.  I'm wondering if I need to add another shake or two or if I'm overestimating what I should be losing and should just stick with it.

OR should I be doing a combo of the liquid diet listed in my binder, it lists stuff like soups, shakes.  I don't remember getting any specifics other than "do a liquid diet 2 weeks prior to surgery".  I'm scared I'll get there and not have lost enough and get surgery cancelled (oh and I have a sore throat that I'm praying goes away!!).  Anyone have any thoughts to calm me down?  Is this just normal panicking at the last minute?

Tami who wonders why she ate so much on her vacation!!

You  are doing  great

they are trying to  keep your calories under 1200  a day.   if you are not hungry  with what you are doing then i say stick with it.  If it gets to the point that you cant take another shake then you can go back to the book to find something else.  4 pounds in   4 days is great some people lose from  10 to  20 pounds on the liquid diet..  It is the size of your liver that they are trying to make smaller so that it is easier to  move and healthier.

take care

Thanks, I went back to my binder after I posted and found a little orange booklet all about phase 2 (duh!) so I think I'm doing ok and am just impatient.  Has she really ever cancelled anyone's surgery?  And if so what for exactly?  I'm not worried I will be over my last weigh in with them but I may not be much below it.  As long as I'm moving in the right direction I should be fine, right?  Right?

You're doing great.  Dr. T has cancelled surgeries before, but my understanding that it is only if your weight has gone up.  Keep to the plan.   4lbs in 4 days is awesome!  Don't forget to take your vitamins, too.

Keep doing what you are doing, you will be fine.  Even if you don't lose another pound, as long as your weight goes down!  Keep at it!

You can do any of the items in the phase 2 liquid diet. It sounds like you are doing great. yoo calories is a bit low, are you getting in the 3 "meals" and 3 "snacks"?

Yes, Dr T. has canceled surgeries due to no weight loss, weight gain and smoking. Your blood test taken just before surgery will reveal if you have quit smoking. Also,  I also understand in the future they will require your CPAP card to be read to see if you are compliant in using it pre-op. At this point they just check in your machine and send it with you to your hospital room post op.

This is serious surgery and the surgeons want their work and your work to be successful.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance.  I don't smoke and I don't use CPAP so I have no worries there :-)  The wii fit told me I lost 1.8 lbs since yesterday so one of my scales is nicer than the other.
In reality I'm sure I'll lose enough by then and my sore throat will go away.  I'm getting myself all in a dither prematurely.  If it's Sunday night and these problems exist then I'll have something to worry about!

Thanks everyone.

Hang in there! I know you can do it. Dr. T is good about answering emails as are the nutritionists. You could contact them too for questions.

31 lbs. lost before surgery!  My goal is 150lbs.  My surgeon's goal is 110lbs.  I just can't imagine that weight right now.  Maybe someday . . .

Did you just start exercising? Sometimes you retain more water and even gain some muscle weight if you're just starting out. Are you getting enough fluid in addition to the shakes?

I really didn't lose that much in the first week, but lost more the second week. I have always been a little odd though ;)
