Struggling

I am having a really hard time losing this pre-op weight.  I started using a body bugg which I really enjoy.  I am getting in the calories I should be burning, but controling the intake of calories is so difficult.  I go in with a game plan and it all falls to crap when I actually have to make food choices.  I am sabotaging myself.   Im like veggies veggies and then all of a sudden it turns into pizza or a sandwhich.

I have an extra challange of working on a college campus where, during lunch, the staff all eats in the dining hall.  Its SOO hard.  I know i could just eat at home, but i really enjoy the social interaction .  My job is somewhat isolating so being able to talk with others at lunch is nice.

I am a sad panda.

You CAN do this!  I know what a strong, beautiful woman you are and this is absolutely something you can do.  Some things that helped me when I was trying to lose the pre-surgery weight were that I did a protein drink for breakfast every morning.  The protein really helps to fill you up.  You may want to think about another one about an hour before lunch so your not actually hungry when you go to lunch and then limit yourself to a very small portion.  When you are done eating, take your tray up and then come back and sit with your friends to socialize.  You can control your dinner, so always plan a healthy sensible dinner.

Don't hesitate to call me if you want to chat.  I totally understand what you're going through.

I know how hard it it too....but you can do it and we are all behind you!!!! Is it possible to bring a bag lunch into the hall to eat with everyone else?  If you can pack your own lunch and snacks than you may not be as tempted to eat in the cafeteria.  Also, try not carrying cash...that has helped me because I have to make a conscious choice to use my check or debit card.  I hop you find something that works for you.  How much do they want you to lose before surgery?

It is hard. We wouldn't have weight issues if it wasn't. You have taken the steps to be on your way to wls now you have a goal, to be succesfull and accountable to yourself and your program. Keep your eyes on the prize! That being said it's probably easier to make good choices that to be disappointed and have your progress in your program extended due to poor weight loss.

There's nothing like knowing that your surgeon can say "yes" or "no" to surgery the day of surgery because of poor pre-op weight loss.

I liked the suggestion of the bag lunch and limited cash with you- perhaps enough to get a drink. MAke sure you are keeping hydrated, have planned healthy snacks so that you are not so hungry and tempted at meal times. How about going for a walk with the gang after the eating is done?

I wish you all the best. Come back and tell us how things are going and what worked for you.

I agree with all the other very smart ladies here.  Limit your cash so you have to make conscious choices.  I always pack my lunch and make sure to bring a variety of healthy choices.  If I have stuff to choose from, I'm less likely to hit the vending machine or the store down the street.  It is hard definitely!  But any changes you make now will just get you closer to your goal physically, and will make the journey easier mentally.  This journey is 95% mental so the more you can wrap your head around it now, the better off you'll be.  Remember we're always here to listen and encourage!

Thank you everyone.  I have to lose 18 pounds.  I may just try going on the pre op diet a little early.
