Support Groups
I am new to this board, but not to Obesity Help. I currently travel back & forth between Maine and New Jersey, however in a couple of weeks I will be moving to Maine permanently!
I had RNY surgery on 6/1/08 and have lost 135 lbs. I am now struggling and rely heavily on my Bariatric "family" for support and friendship.
Can anyone tell me what support groups are available in the Augusta area. I am also willing to travel if necessary.
Thanks for your help, and I look forward to getting to know all of you!
Denise
Welcome- I work in Augusta, live in Midcoast area
THere are 4 programs for WLS in Maine
Bangor- Eastern Maine Medical Center-
Portland- Maine Medical Center
Lewiston- Dr Loggins
Augusta- Dr Trieu
Each has support groups. I'm sure Dr. Trieu's patients will come in and let you know about theirs. It would be good to introduce yourself to one of the programs and surgeons so you have your future follow up appointments and are followed medically.
I attend the Bangor support groups and also a peer support group which meets the 1st Saturday of the month in Rockport. That would be 1 hour drive from Augusta but you are certainly welcome to join us. PM me for more info.

Welcome to the Maine board and to Maine. I lived in NJ for a few years and moved back to Maine in 2001. The next Augusta support group is at 5:30 on Monday 4/19 at 5:30 at Granite Hill Estates in Hallowell - this one is led by one of the program's nutritionists. Then there is one on the 26th at 5:30 same place - this one is with a LCSW and covers more emotional issues. If you need any more info - just let me know!
I look forward to meeting all of you!
I am looking forward to this move...but the hardest part is leaving my Bariatric family behind. I have such a great support team. I need good friends to share this journey, especially now when I feel I could slip backwards very easily, and thats NOT going to happen.
PS. I have been a lurker on this board for quite some time so I feel as I know some of you already. I won't be a stranger in the future.
Thanks again,
Denise
