Well I received my sleep study results and CPAP machine today.  The results said that out of 400 minutes, I had 275 Apnea's and 115 Hyprapneas....thats not good right?  It also said my oxygen was 84%.  Hopefully this CPAP thing will help...think it will?  :)

You'll probably feel like a million bucks after a good night's sleep!  (I hated my cpap, but my sleep apnea was very mild!)   Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I had the bipap machine. However it was ineffective for me. I have not had sleep apnea since my surgery in August. Sleep is much better now that I've dropped weight. Good luck with your cpap and hopefully you wont need it for long.

My results were much, much worse . . . but CPAP made a world of difference. I switched to a biPAP when my pressures needed to go higher. I also bleed oxygen in. What you probably want to ask for, if it wasn't suggested already, is to use a pulse oximeter overnight with the CPAP and see where your oxygen runs. You want it to be over 90% for over 90% of the time you're checked. I really needed both to feel better, but I fell into the upper 70s.

On the bright side, I am 7 weeks post-op and we lost power in one of those storms and I was actually able to sleep without kicking myself awake, or even snoring!

It takes some time to get used to the mask for some people, but I slept so much better and it was nice not waking up in a panic.

Once you get used to the CPAP mask you are going to notice such a big difference in the way you feel. It's amazing the way things change when you get a good night's sleep.

For me it took about 2 weeks before I could go through the night wearing the mask. In the beginning I would peel it off half way through the night. It takes time to get accustomed to being all strapped in. After weight loss and a second sleep study in November I don't need it any more . My apnea events are not high enough to need the CPAP anymore.

Another plus for RNY and getting healthy.
