Pouch Pain
I called Dr. Toder's office Monday because the pain in my pouch is increasing in frequency and intensity since I last saw her. (I am 3 months out from surgery.) At my last appointment she told me to take an OTC acid reducer like pepcid because she said it sounds like I am producing too much acid. I have done this with little or no relief. I have a volcano in my pouch waking me at 4 am on a regular basis.
She wasn't in her office, but I spoke to the nurse, explaining my pain, symptoms and what I have been taking for it. The nurse consulted with a doctor on call and then told me that it sounds like it may be the start of an ulcer. She called in a script for Carafate and told me to double up on my OTC pepcid. I have to call back next Monday to let them know if it is any better and if it is not, then a scope will be scheduled.
Has anyone else gone through this? How did it progress for you? What should I expect? Thank you!

I've had ulcers a couple of times. The carafate was what fixed my pain! I felt much better within a couple of days of starting it. I am still on Prevacid, nearly 2 years out, as I'm one of those that seems kinda prone to ulcers, I guess.
You should start feeling better with the carafate, but if you don't, call them back. Don't let it go too long. Ulcers are not fun and can be quite painful!
The endoscope is not a big deal. They put you in twilight sleep and just take a look around. Not painful, just gives you a bit of a sore throat. I got pretty pictures of my ulcer when they did my first scope. They are on my profile if you wanna see them
Just keep the docs up to date with how you are feeling! Good luck!
