Pre-Op Reflection

As I sit here the smells from the kitchen waft to the living room.  A roast of beef bathes in a puddle of sage and garlic perfumed sauce.  The mushrooms soaking up the  flavors like a fresh towel from the laundry.

My husband is cooking in the kitchen secretly.  He hid the ingrediants when i came home.  I am so looking forward to this process and getting a band, but I am fearful that these nights will be fewer and far between.  I hope he will be ok cooking things in  smaller portions and with less fat.

As much as i love food I know that is part of my struggle.  I want outdoor activities to bewhat i look forward to at night.  Rafting, climbing, hiking, swimming.  Can you salivate over windsurfing?  I guess i will find out.  As much as I love food I look forward to it being a nurishing need instead of a luxurious want.

Oh my goodness I can smell it from here. When's dinner?

With the band you  should be able to have this meal- smaller portions, careful selections, and of course chew, chew, chew. My bandster friends can give you better info on the menu choices and what works for them.

"I look forward to it being a nurishing need instead of a luxurious want. " That's what it's all about ....food being sustenance rather than comfort. That's something We all struggle with. Am I hungry or bored, upset, tired etc. Unfortunately this is not brain surgery and is a life long lesson to learn. As long as you assess what's going on and are you really hungry you will do well. When you let your hunger dictate your eating- trouble.

Good luck

Actually I enjoy food more now than ever.  I don't eat anything that isn't worth the calories, I stopped eating junk a few months after surgery because I really wanted the quality over the quantity. You will enjoy food again, I promise!  Nice to see your real face!

Your dinner sounds wonderful.  As others have pointed out, if they did surgery on our head, not just our stomachs, this would be easy!  You should be able to still eat meals like that, just in smaller quantities.  It's SOOO worth it!
