Hello all,

I'm posting for a friend who has Mainecare and is interested in surgery. Any idea who takes Mainecare and what the waiting lists are?

Thanks for your help!

As far as I know all the programs take Mainecare.  Not sure how long the waiting lists are running now.  Generally the first step is to get a referral from PCP or attend a informational seminar, she'd probably be able to get more specific info that way.  Good luck to your friend!

The program at EMMC takes MaineCare and Medicare patients. There are 3 surgeons who do WLS. The wait will depend on how your friend progresses through the required meetings and which surgeon she chooses. The wait is not as long for Dr. Huang and DaMar. Dr Toder is wonderful, but it can be a long wait for surgery with her.

I'm pretty sure they take MaineCare at MMC as well -- two surgeons, Dr. Wolff and Dr. Cobean, both with good reputations. You have to do an information seminar first and then the process takes about 6 months if you just move through each step pretty well . . . it may take longer if you have trouble losing a little weight before seeing the surgeon, or don't pass your nutrition test.

I think the wait in Waterville and Lewiston may be less, but not sure on the Maine Care. MMC and EMMC are the centers of excellence in the state. Usually it takes a little longer to go through the process with a center of excellence because they try to make sure patients are ready before they operate.
