What to take to hospital

I think I have handle on the things I typically need when I go into the hospital -- Chapstick, moisturizer, toothbrush, toothpaste, inhalers, glucometer, etc. . . . but what about things like Crystal Light or preferred protein drinks, should I bring anything like that? I guess I don't really have an idea of what to expect in terms of what I will drink while I am still in the hospital.

I'm going into MMC, if that helps any. Usual stay is just overnight one night, but I may stay extra as I am high risk due to pulmonary hypertension, diabetes, etc. Surgery is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Also, DH is taking me down in the morning, then staying tehe day and going home to the kids. He'll come back down on Thursday.

I went to EMMC and they provided everything.  I ended up bring way too much and just had more to lug home.  I would recommend as little as possible.  The hospital has all toiletries and though they may not be the brand you use they are fine for a few days and it saves you from unpacking when you get home.  I was unable to really concentrate on reading and really spent my time walking and dozing.  I didn't even watch TV and I was a huge TV bug at the time.  I would bring your own pillow and put it in a bright colored pillowcase so it doesn't get mixed up with the hospitals (plus the bright color makes you feel special). I also used my own jammies (got to cover up that butt when you walk the halls) and slippers.  As far as drinks I wasn't allowed anything bu****er until the morning I left, then I was given carnation instant breakfast.  So I wouldn't worry about bringing anything.  Maybe have your hubby bring up something to sip on the way home (no straws remember).  Here is my cell number so your hubby can call and let me know how you make out and I will post for the others.  I will be thinking of you!!!!  542-2112

Chapstick, slippers, loose clothes to wear home.  They provide everything else, even toothbrush.  I also brought my pillow so that I could hold it over my tummy on the ride home. And be sure you have slip on shoes, you won't want to bend over and tie shoes.  Good luck!

I had really, really noisy roommates (not bariatric patients) and my room was right beside the nurses station, so there was always noise.  My hubby brought my MP3 player so I could put it on and drown out the noise.  I also went out and bought some comfortable jammies.  They hospital will supply a johnny, but it was so nice to put on my "own" clothes.  Much more comfortable than the johnny.

I didn't use much of what I brought with me.  Pj bottoms, a robe, slip on shoes (like crocs or something of that sort), cell phone, and an mp3 player.  I didn't have much interest in anything else, including tv.  You'll be up walking and resting most of the time.  Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I brought way too much for my RNY. Loose clothing for the ride home. The hospital had everything else, even the small pillow to hold while coughing and taking home.

The second hospitalization I had nothing but my purse and needlework. The only thing I wanted DH to purchase was undies.

Chapstick, ear plugs are a must but were provided by the hospital.
