6 week nut and surgeon appt.

I saw the nut and Dr. Toder yesterday.  I am down 33 pounds since surgery on Nov. 16th, 2009 and down a total of 95 pounds since Feb. 20th, 2009.  That seems like it is a little slow on the post op weight loss, but they both said they were pleased with my results.  The nut told me she was impressed that I had actually gained 1/2 a pound in muscle.  She added a B12 supplement to my regimen and told me to increase my excercise to 200 minutes per week. I think she may have heard my hip joints moan after she said that.

The only other concern that I discussed was some pouch pain when it is empty.  I awoke to a burning sensation at 4 am and wasn't sure if I could take Maalox or something like it so I sipped milk and it relieved it.  Dr. Toder told me it sounded like too much acid and Maalox would be fine.

My food plan has finally been advanced to stage 5 so I have tried 2 new foods with success:  fat free refried beans and multigrain bread.  I had the refried beans last night with salsa and sprinkle of cheddar. (salsa and cheddar have been standards fare for me for about a month)  YUMMO!  My pouch had no objections.  Then for lunch today, I toasted 1/2 a slice of multigrain bread and put 1/4 cup of low fat chicken salad on top.  It was delicious!  My pouch didn't object, but I did get full fast, so I only ate about 1/4 of a slice of toast and then ate the chicken salad off the top.  Again, no objection from my pouch.  I am so excited to be able to have some more variety in my meals.

That's great news Bev.  I don't think that is slow considering how much you lost on pre op. Watch the bread, can be tricky stuff!

Congratulations on your visit and weight loss. It doesn't sound like slow weight loss to me either.

You and DH must have crossed paths at the nut and Dr. Toder's. He had his 1 year check yesterday.

I'm still pre-op, but at my last support group meeting there were a couple of people who were 6 weeks out and had both lost about 25 pounds. The nutritionist said that was right where they should be.

It doesn't feel like gas, but Maalox has helped a little.  I wonder if it could be from being empty too long, since the worse pain is usually in the middle of the night.  I may have to plan a little snack for then, perhaps a cheese stick.

Thank you for your input!

Thank you all for your supportive comments!  I don't know what I would do without all of you and your wonderful guidance!
