Possible ulcer... Anyone had one since WLS?

Hi out there--

I had a question to throw out to everyone. I am 7 months out from my RNY, and have lost 88 lbs. I spoke to Dr. Loggins' office today, and gave them a list of symptoms I've been having for almost a week. I was told I likely have an ulcer. They are calling in some meds for me, and have scheduled an upper endoscopy for next week. I am really uncomfortable and worried, and was wondering if anyone else out there has had this happen after WLS, and if so, what your symptoms were.

I was surprised what the office's assessment was, because I haven't had any heartburn. The discomfort started out feeling like strong hunger pangs, and it's uncomfortable high in my abdomen, under my lungs. It almost feels like I have air trapped in my stomach and need to belch, and my stomach keeps churning to get rid of it. Eating & drinking have been painful, and changing positions hurts, too. I've looked online for info on post WLS ulcer symptoms, and have found nothing, so I was hoping to have some input from someone who might have gone through this. Thanks!

Been there, done that....a COUPLE of times!  Dr L put me on Carafate and that took care of it pretty quick for me.  I'm also STILL on prevacid (I'm 19 months out) as I keep kinda "flaring" up the ulcers (Nope, I don't smoke, drink...hardly anyways..no caffeine, no NSAIDs)  It just kinda happens sometimes!

When mine flare up, I get this full, pressure kinda feeling high in my chest, kinda under my sternum.  Gets better right after I eat then it comes back with a vengeance!  It's definitely NOT fun!  I've have 2 or 3 endoscopies (I've had so many, I've lost track!) and they aren't that bad.

No worries....Dr L and his staff will take care of you.  Just keep them posted on how you are feeling.

Same thing happened to me at 7 months out.  Dr. prescribed prevacid and it did the trick.  I took the meds for about a month but the pain was gone after a few days of taking it. I don't have insurance to cover the RX and it cost 165.00 so I only too it for the month.  Now they have it over the counter which is much cheaper.   Read some of my past posts as they describe the pain.  I didn't have an endoscopy.

Ditto to all of the above.  I have been through everything.  I am still on Carafte due to a multiple ulcers.  I waited to long to have them looked at and ended up admitted to the hospital several times.  It is good that you are going to the Dr now.  Take care of it right away.  I was told that I might have to be on Carafate for the rest of my life, but I would have my bypass again any day.  Taking medicine is much better than being morbidly obese.  Good luck!  You will be in my thoughts.  Missi

So I had my endoscopy today, and they found that around two of my RNY staples was some erosion, causing the ulcer. The Dr. removed two staples. He said that since my surgery was in April, everything is healed enough to handle it. It was a surprise, though. At least I know for sure what was causing the pains. My stomach is achy tonight, but will hopefully feel better soon. CMMC was great; everyone was pleasant & reassuring. Hoping this will put an end to the ulcer drama! Thanks to everyone for their posts with info & reassurance. It definitely helped!
