I dont know how I am going to get thru it.   My husband was supposed to work overtime and I told him he couldn't because I needed his support for tomorrow.  Its our BIG family Thanksmas party (we have it right between xmas and thanksgiving) and there will be LOTS of food.   I am just over 2 weeks post op and dont really have the appetite to eat it...but the WANT is still there, know what I mean?   Ham, turkey, lasagna, meatballs, weiners, salads, desserts etc...   Give me strength to conquer !! lol

I remember going to a BBQ 4 weeks after my surgery.  I have to laugh about it now.  The food looked so good.  I brought my own yogurt and protein drinks.  Everyone did not know I had RNY they just think I had surgery so I was on a special diet.  I "made" my husband try all the sweets that I SO WANTED to eat and tell me how good they were.  So I lived it through him.    You can do it.  It is easier at the beginning because if you eat something you shouldn't it will make you sick.  If only that worked now for me!!!!  LOL.  Well I can eat most anything but some things will still bother me.

Just put some on a plate, and pretend to eat it.  That was what I did.  I took things that were soft that I could have a few bites of.  You will be fine, in the beginning you don't have an appetite for anything anyway!

Have you been cleared for soft foods yet?

At Thanksgiving, I was just over 4 weeks out.  I took an appetizer sized plate and put the tiniest bit of the foods I could have on it and had a taste of each of them after I ate my protein.  I still got to socialize and participate, but I didn't eat much at all.

At 2 weeks out, Dave and I went to a company get together.  I took a bottle of water and just sipped.  It was so tough.  My head hunger was crazy, but I made my skinny beanpole husband try all of the yummy looking foods and he was kind enough to say, "That's really not very good," or "That's really too salty."    He told me a few days after the party that the food was really good, but he didn't have the heart to tell me.

IMHO, the head hunger is the worst part of this whole struggle!!  Just keep in mind why you had the surgery and what your goals are!  You can do it!  Be strong!   (I've struggled and STILL struggle with the same issues!)   Good luck!

Thanksgiving this year was only 10 days after my surgery.  I sipped water throughout the entire meal.  I didn't sit with everyone, because I just couldn't.  But as soon as the food was cleared from the table, I got right in there with everyone to chat and have a wonderful time with my family, which is what it is really all about after all.  Also, I reminded myself that this is the only time that it will be like this.  By this time next year, I will be one of the thinner people who just take a tiny bit and pick at it at the gathering.  Good luck and remember that we will all be here for you afterward.
