Hi!  I have a few questions that I would love to get everyone's opinion on.  I have thin hair now and I have read that with this surgery expect to loose hair.  However, my thin hair could be because I'm on a low dose of blood pressure medicine with a duritec, I also have throid problems and take synthroid. So..One that is making me a little hesitant.. And two I'm not a person that likes to get sick. What are the first few weeks like after surgery etc.

I lost some hair but it did get better once I started taking zinc and my protein levels got higher.  I also had my hair cut shorter and used the Nioxin shampoo and conditioner.  I'm not sure if it all helped, but at least the hair loss slowed down and I am back to having a full, thick head of hair again.

I, too, don't like being sick.  The first couple of weeks were kinda rough for me with the pain from the gas they fill you up with, but the walking and sipping definitely helped!  I only took 1 pain med dose once I got home, and that was the first night I was home, so I could sleep.  I didn't really feel sick, just bloated and tired.  All in all, it REALLY wasn't that bad!

I'd do it again in a heartbeat!  NO regrets at all!

Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have.  I have a lot of old blogs if you search back in my "archives" which kinda detail my process and recovery.  Feel free to add me as a friend if you wanna take a look at them.
Good luck!

I don't think there is anyway to know if you will lose hair. I don't think I really have lost much, even though I clean it out of the drain every morning.  I learned in Cosmetology school years ago that we lose 80-120 hairs every day.  So sometimes I think we think the loss is worse than it really is.  Also, I noticed that when I was almost four hundred pounds, the front and top of my head the hair was thinning on it's own.  That has seemed to gotten better since I had surgery too.

I really haven't had any issues and would do the surgery again in a heartbeat.  But that doesn't mean you won't win the lottery and be the one out of however many that have complications.  Good luck with your decision and come here and ask questions any time!

well I am 10 weeks post op and haven't had any hair problems. i actually feel like my hair is growing more since surgery, might be the vitamins?? after surgery you might be off the medicine for the blood pressure and you might not have any hair problems. I am so happy i had surgery and the pain i went threw the first few weeks following surgery was well worth the feeling i have now!!!

HI!  Thank you for your response.  I see that you had Michelle Toder MD, how did you like her?  Any other pre op and post op information would be greatly appreciated.  Did you have to do a sleep study?
