 Hello,
This site has changed after 9 years! I am a 45 year old, 9 year post-op VBG. After losing 30 pounds, I stopped losing. Dr Inman, my surgeon in Indiana, informed me that "you may not be able to lose weight." After 5 years of vomiting and losing my health insurance, the surgeon would not touch me. My family moved to Maine recently so I can go to graduate school and I was able to get on MaineCare. Last night I made my first move to eating healthy again, stop the daily vomiting, and lose weight. The session for Maine Medical's program very informative and I look forward to beginning my weight loss adventure again.

We're all in this together, right?

Sincerely,
Diana

We are all here to support each other.  And kuddos to you for getting back on track.  Tell me a little more about VGB, I'm not real sure I know what it is.

A VBG is a vertical banded gastroplasty. They no longer do these surgeries. Seems they didn't work!

The surgeon goes in, my case an open surgery, staples the stomach to reduce it to about 3 ounces and places a band at the base of the stomach to delay emptying. The band is not like the lapband and cannot be adjusted. I was told the band is about the diameter of my pinkie finger. As a result, just about everything gets stuck in the stomach causing vomiting. I cannot eat salad, fruit, breads, rice, most red meats, pork, well, almost anything. Makes it real hard to eat healthy.

Wow, can you have  a revision surgery to and RNY?  You will still probably have some issues, I cannot eat rice, pasta, or bread but I can eat salad and most fruits/veggies.

welcome to both of you.  hard to understand how with all the throwing up you couldn't loose more weight.  it's amazing what our bodies and brain will do.  We learn pretty quickly hot to go backk to comfort foods and crap we shouldn't have.  we talk alot about our Brains here.  best of luck to you.

Exactly, I throw up a salad, which I dearly love, and will grab a bowl of cream of wheat. I lose and apple, but I know ice cream goes down fine! It's psychological more than anything.
