So, I know the big thing is to get approved by your insurance so that they pay for it, but what do they really cover.  I have university of Maine System insurance and I think they are very good.  They also cover more if you choose eitheer EMMC or Maine med because of the excellence award thing.  So I was wondering if people would mind sharing what they paid out of pocket while being covered by insurance.

I had an Atena HMO at the time of the surgery, and they covered all expensive besides my deductible of $500.

Good luck!

Hi Nat and welcome to the OH Maine Forum.

As I'm sure you are aware the cost to you will depend on the surgery, the surgeon, complications, what tests you need prior to approval, and what your insurance plan will cover (if they cover the surgery at all).

What you need to do is talk with the surgeons office about what is required for approval from your insurance company and the costs involved.  The surgeons office should be able to tell you what your approx cost will be based on the insurance information you give them.

Please take a moment to look at my profile.  I have listed all my costs leading up to my surgery as well as the surgery itself.  I also have a timeline so you can see how long it took for me to get through the program at EMMC.  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me.

Good luck.

I had EBPA and I had to pay my deductible and copays until I hit my out of pocket maximum.  Neither the Psych eval or any of the Nutritionist visits I've had have been covered either.  But EMMC is great with a payment plan!
