I'd start with weaning yourself off the caffeine, as that can be pretty tough.  Slowly move towards decaf beverages and then wean yourself off the soda.  Crystal light is a good substitute.  Just try to cut back and wean yourself off slowly.  It's hard to do but SOOOOO worth it!

as Ruth said the caffine  breakiing is the hardest to break, I still take in my coffee post op, BUT, if and when I have a soda it is "SLOW" I probably have a soda once a month now,  I didn't like Crystal lite, I just drank water.  its amazing how when you can't drink with your meals how your drinking habbits will change.  and dont worry about you not thinking you can't do it, cause, for me, "I PHYSICALLY" CAN'T DRINK with my meals.  it HURTS,  I might be able to have a glass of milk with a teaspoon of peanut butter.  but other then that, no way.  But that being said, I have the band, RNY might be different.  I still have good restriction.  If I have a soda it has to be on a empty tummy. or it just wont' go down.

I tried to kick it way before too, and quite honestly after about a month I decided to heck with it, I wasn't going to be able to have it again so I had one every day until I started my liquid diet, and once while I was on my liquid diet I had one at a restaurant. But honestly, it's been six months and I don't miss it at all now.  I know I can't have it, but I still don't miss it.

I didn't quit until my liquid diet either, like Kelly....When your body still allows it it is soo hard to quit!

But since my ligquid diet I have not have soda at all- so about 5 months now...CRAZY.

I miss it sometimes becuase now all I drink is water...but I know if I drink it I wouldn't feel very good and so thats how I stay away../

GOOD LUCK TRYING TO CUT THE HABIT PRIOR

I stopped cold turkey. My visit with Dr. Toder to qualify me for surgery was June 17, 2008. No soda since then.

Coffee- that's another story. I do love my coffee.
