So I have my letter of medical necessity from my Doctor.  But I have been hearing that in order to actually have the RNY surgery while in MaineCare you have to have a severe co-morbidity along with your BMI. The reason why I am so worried is because I do not have any "severe" co-morbidities. I have GERD, shortness of breath, pain in my back, lower extremity joint pain. I dont have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol. I have had a sleep apnea test but it said i didnt have it. If you know anything about this please help. I am stresing over this because I may not be able to have my surgery!!

Dr. Toder is telling me that my extreme lower joint pain will be enough along with my BMI of 64.  I have medicare.  I have to use a walker or cane to get around.  Don't give up until you speak with the doctor and their staff.  They are trained in this and can give you better information.
