ok, the last time i went to the nut i asked about carbs. I know we are to eat protein first 40-60 grams of protein daily. And i stay away from refined white carbs like the black plague! Are we to act like we are on a high protein low carb diet? Nut said, No. she said there is no limit on whole grain carbs you just have to eat your protein first, or get your 40 -60 protein.  I was so happy that she said this because i think the atkins diet is one of the most unhealthy diets out there!!  eggs and bacon v's eggs and whole grain toast??  any way my reason for this post is that i watch alot of videos on you tube and every one is so afraid of carbs and they never say if they are eating good carbs or bad carbs!

Are you afraid of carbs???

At first I was terrified of carbs.  But your brain NEEDS carbs to function, and my body needs carbs to poop basically.  There's also a huge difference between the carbs in milk or cheese and the carbs in a doughnut.  So I try for the most part to limit my carbs to dairy and whole grains and I haven't had problems with them at all.  I've even had a couple bites of the "bad" carbs and lived to tell of it.  Moderation is the key in all things.

Dr' im not, Nut I'm not, (well)???  but I will say that anyone, who cuts things out of their diet totally is going to go back to them at some point.  so My Philosophy is take it in,  I also do the good carbs and now my family is actually doing it too.  there are a few bad carbs like.  pretzles, and i buy a frozen pizza every few weeks for them as a treat or emergency meal.  but they have done so awesome with it.  fruit, veggies need to be added too.  we need to change our way of life, but in the process continue living.  so, that is my opinion, but following my ideas are not recommended.  your doing great.

There are many different "camps" out there on this subject and hanging out on the RNY board I started to get caught up in the carb-mania myself.  But the last few weeks I've gone back to what the NUT tells us and I seem to be eating less total calories and I'm not hungry. I've also found that I like to "cheat" and eat my salad first and then have my protein or I get too full to eat my salad and I need the roughage.

If you were to look on say the Daily Plate, it tells me I need about 55 grams of protein a day and about 170 grams of carbs, because I can't eat that much bulk I get about 50-60 grams of protein and the about 1/2 the carbs recommended, now.

Speaking of salad. When can I start eating salad?  I am 9 weeks out and i am dying to have fresh vegetables. I have had some canned veggies but that is nothing compared to a good fresh salad.

I think I started back on salads after my 3rd month? I have never really had a problem with anything after month 3.  Once in a while I get things stuck but never the same thing twice.

I was very "carbophobic" early out!  Now, not so much.  I do tend to stay away from the white carbs and starches as much as I can, but I DO eat a lot of veggies, dairy products, good carbs.  It seems to be working for me.  I know every program and nut is different, but I tend to agree with the others........you need some carbs for good brain function, I think you just need to pick the "good" carbs and keep your meal plan balanced.  Don't forget that fiber falls under your carb category too........no fiber=no poo=not good!!!!!!   Good luck!!!!

You don't know how relieved this thread has made me.  I know I'm early out, but lack of carbs was one of my fears.  I was going to ask the NUT about it at my next appointment.

u need carbs for sure , for your body , i do high protein and my carbs come from veggies and super grains , such as millet , falx seed , quinoa  , whole wheat grains which all of these break down in the body real slow , i do not do much white flour or enriched stuff  at all , oh and soy flour is another one i use alot of , the more fiber u have in these items it takes away from the carbs , so i try too read the labels for these first ingredents it not i go too something else , i also try too stay away from enriched stuff
